Those familiar with the story will recognize Camp Pine Trails as the youth summer camp that operated for more than 50 years before closing down after the 2007 season. This was three years after a mysterious disappearance shook the entire Cedar Grove community. Whitman is said to have purchased the camp property just days prior to his arrest. The Helmsworths have not publicly discussed any plans for the future of the property but have said they are not allowing public tours or visits.
After the visit with his victim, Whitman apparently experienced a change of heart and decided it was time for his side of the story to be told. He reached out to reporters and has expressed his interest in a full interview. In his official statement, Whitman says he wants to tell the world of his love for another player in this complicated story, Lisanne Banes.
Curled in the corner of her sofa, Lisanne read the newspaper article again. When she was finished, she folded it and set it aside before finishing the mug of coffee she held. She stood and walked through the house to a large storage closet behind the kitchen. Taking out two duffel bags, a propane stove, and a blue sleeping bag, she piled everything on the floor in front of the back door, then went to the stairs.
"Jason," she called up. "Will you go into the attic for me and grab the tent? I thought we'd go camping."
He mumbled a reply, and she went into her small office. Sitting down at the desk, she took a letterhead and a pen with peacock-colored ink from the top drawer.
