Jake was busy the next few days on the ranch, but Grace was never far from his mind. He called the hospital and found out that she’d been released.

The baby, a few weeks premature, was still in the nursery though and wouldn’t be released for several more days.

Since he had to pick up some feed in town, he swung by the hospital to make sure the baby was all right. At the nursery window, he’d removed his cowboy hat and was peering in, trying to read the names on the tiny cribs.

There was only one with a blue blanket. The name on the crib read: Baby Boy Cantrell. Cantrell? So Grace had kept her maiden name?

“Is that the best looking baby you’ve ever seen?” asked the baby’s father as he joined Jake at the nursery window. “I am one lucky man.”

“You are that,” Jake agreed thinking any man married to Grace Cantrell had to be the luckiest man alive.

“She was upset when you left the hospital before she got a chance to thank you for helping her,” Bill was saying. “If it wasn’t for Grace… She sacrificed so much to have this baby for us. She’s an amazing sister-in-law.”

  “Sister-in-law?”

“I just assumed she told you. When Carolyn found out she couldn’t carry our baby, Grace volunteered right away. Speaking of the amazing Grace, here she is now.”

Jake turned to see Grace and her sister Carolyn coming up the hallway. Grace smiled when she spotted him standing there, her whole face lighting up.

Jake felt himself light up as well as he remembered what she’d said on the way to the hospital. She had the crazy idea that they were destined to be together?

He thought about the odds that he just happened to come down that road that day to find her in labor with her sister’s baby.

Jake didn’t know much about destiny, but he was no longer that shy boy in high school. He’d been given another chance to tell Grace how he felt about her.

And that was exactly what he planned to do – tonight at dinner.
