“Adam, what do you think we should do?” asked Fayte.
“Hmmm.” Adam closed his eyes and thought for a moment. What could they do? “So far, we have been taking quests from the Guild Association, which has increased our reputation, filled our coffers, and given us some pretty good experience… but I don’t know if quests like this will be enough to raise our levels as quickly as we need to.”
There were several types of quests found in VRMMORPGs like Age of Gods. Kill quests, escort quests, defense quests, gathering quests, delivery quests, and destroy quests.
Kill quests were fairly straightforward. A player’s job was to find a specific monster and kill it. Sometimes they were requested to kill a certain number of monsters, or maybe the monster they were requested to kill was a unique monster not typically found within a specific region. Quests like this used to be the bread and butter of MMORPGs before the age of virtual reality took hold. While they were still important for leveling up, they had taken a backseat to the PvP aspect of multiplayer games.
The other quests were also all pretty standard. Escort quests involved protecting someone (typically an NPC) as they traveled to their destination. Defense quests were all about defending a location from enemy forces—a good example of this was a quest they had taken not long ago to defend a small city from an invasion of [drakes] that had flown down from a nearby mountain. Gathering quests had players finding specific items like herbs for alchemy ingredients, ore for forging swords, or meat for food. Delivery quests were likewise about delivering items to someone. These often came with a time limit, so players had to be careful. The last quest type were destruction quests, which were similar to kill quests, except players were asked to destroy a specific location, typically a fortress. These were the rarest quest. Destiny’s Overture had only been given one destruction quest, which had them storming a fortress that had been invaded by a monster army.
