She pushed his head up so she could stare into his beautiful white eyes. Only to find they weren’t white any longer. They were a flickering flame blue that settled into the most gorgeous ocean blue she’d ever seen.
“Nellie.” He lifted a hand to her face, traced a trembling finger down her cheek. “I can see you.” He turned his head, looked at Bowen. “And you. And Erian. And Trevelyan. You came.”
“I did.” Trevelyan bowed his head.
“Let me go.” Keane caught Nellie’s hands in his and pushed them down and away. When he let her go, she thought about fighting him, then realized what he needed to know. Once and for all. He got to his feet, pushing aside assistance as he stood there, hands at his side, and tilted his head to the sky. He smiled. Then he laughed. “I can see.”
Nellie sobbed, tried to catch the sound behind her hands, but failed miserably. “I guess I managed to heal you after all.” Before he could stop her, she moved in and as he folded his arms around her, she knew she’d finally found where she belonged.
“Clara?” Bowen asked.
“She took the families to Miranda,” Nellie told him. “She said you’d know where.”
“We do.” Keane squeezed her tight. “Let’s say we get everyone home.”
“Wait. What’s that?” Trevelyan stretched his hand out to the sky as a bright blue explosion erupted in the distance.
She’d heard that sound before. Just as she’d fallen through the book. “Amber,” Nellie whispered. “It’s Amber. She’s coming through.”
“She certainly is.” Keane shifted her against his side as the blue streak descended. “That’s the good news.”
“What’s the bad?” Nellie wasn’t sure she wanted to know. “Is she headed for the lake?”
“No,” Bowen moved in and rested a hand on her shoulder. “She’s headed straight for Dracha and the Keep.”
