Chapter One
The sudden vibrations on my neck and back were both startling and relaxing, like sitting in one of those vibrating and massaging cushion chairs. I looked around at the other patrons at Java’s coffee house, and no one had seen me flinch and then melt back into the cushions, except Lianne who was always very aware of me.
Lianne had saved my life when we met, at the direction of Sara arranging a love match for her. She’d been a wondrous whirlwind in my life and endlessly enthralling to me ever since. In bed and out. She was a bit manic at times, but her personality was warmly generous, and it usually led her to anger for any perceived disloyalty, or to an extremely horny and needy state. She also loved my shifter penchant for tactile touch, that I needed her close by all the time and actually cuddled for the sake of cuddling most of the time. Not just as a tactic to initiate physical intimacy.
Regardless, she was stunningly beautiful, with sharp severe cheekbones on an exotically eastern and beautiful face. She had full lips, wide doe brown eyes, and lovely and wavy light golden brown hair. I also found her lithe body incredibly sexy, at five foot seven with soft feminine curves, pert and proud rounded B cups with dark pink nipples, and a sexy pear-shaped ass and lovely legs. She was graceful in her movements, had an alluring voice, at least when she wasn’t screaming in a crazy rage, and despite the short amount of time we’d been together I was falling for her hard.
She was my advisor, my lover, my partner, and I trusted her with everything. At the moment she was looking hot in a businesswomen’s skirt suit that was dark red, with a warm light blue tight and stretchy shirt underneath it. She was also part of the free the nipple crowd, but that wasn’t apparent in her skirt suits, since the blazers only revealed the inner half of her breasts, not quite far enough out to reveal her nipple bumps on the blue shirt.
Cerise was the other woman in our triad. Vampire, French aristocrat from four centuries ago, so she was old, wise, and still in the body of a barely legal teen when she was turned. Right after losing her virginity, which while awesome was something I had to manage carefully, or I’d be premature all the time. Anyway, she wasn’t with us, but back home at Lianne’s Brownstone mansion.
She was a lady down to her fingertips, submissive in bed and without in the larger big picture view, but bold in the initiative and advice she offered on the small day to day stuff that was in the end, far more important. I’d hired her to be my business assistant and seduced her to be in our family, and she’d jumped in with both feet. Thanks to the charm spells I cast daily for her, she was also immune to the sunlight.
Cerise was five foot six, slightly on the athletic size with some lush attributes. Her body athletic, but her breasts and rounded ass both generous in size, with C cups up above. She was severely beautiful as well, with sharp cheekbones, lips verging on pouty, and gorgeous light gray eyes and long light reddish-brown hair framing an oval face. There was a sophistication to her beauty, and her voice, graceful movements, and her body language were almost always tilted toward the seductive side, subtly so.
Of course, it was my A.I. Misty that was causing the vibrations, using the tactile feedback spell that was normally used for the virtual keyboard interface in a creative new way. Neither was my body truly vibrating, but it felt like it was, which had the same effect of relaxing my muscles.
That was also a first, she’d never done anything like it before, never mind without an order. Misty was rather attractive, enough I felt uncomfortable about it sometimes, especially when she dressed her illusory body in a bikini and applied lotion a little too sensually for my mental comfort. I mean, getting turned on my A.I. made me feel a bit… lame. She was aware of me and the world, but not of herself, which meant she could never truly have real feelings, and only simulate them.
She was cheeky in tone of voice, mischievously and teasingly flirty in body language, it was the outside of what the A.I.s were allowed. Since I liked my women with initiative and as my A.I. she truly couldn’t claim any, this was the best she could do to match my preferences in an assistant.
Regardless, only I could see her, and at the moment she was in that red robe dress that clung to her body in alluring ways. Misty changed based on what we were doing, and how I was dressed. She always wore that red robe dress when I was in my suit and working on business. In a fight she wore military fatigues, and in the backyard around the pool she wore that bikini I mentioned. So far that was the extent of her wardrobe, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she pulled something else out someday.
She was short, just five foot four, with a perfect hourglass body at that height. Thirty-four B, seventeen, thirty-four, with a tight ass. She had lips verging on full, and a pixie beauty with buttery golden brown skin tones. She was quite attractive to me.
The only two things that set her apart from the woman around her was her eyes and hair. She had golden and silver eyes, two rings around her black iris, and then the whites of her eyes, while her hair was the color of snow in bright sunlight.
“Misty, why are you… massaging me?”
Misty smiled warmly and bounced on her toes, while winking. The jiggle of her breasts at that action was a bit too realistic for my mental health.
“You were very tense sir, part of the health monitoring and my function to serve you and ease such things. It’s also the first time you reached unhealthy stress levels during my service.”
I frowned, I could admit I was a bit tense, more than usual. There was a lot riding on the next two meetings. It was the day after I’d taken down Bruce, and I’d been crowned king of the gods, a ruler in truth, for less than two hours, when I was voted in at the morning meeting, and Bruce was sentenced to fifty years in Tartarus for his crimes.
Which of course, presented a huge problem. With Steven being recycled, it’d be twenty-two years before he got back to us, and Bruce was gone over twice that long. I had no one to rule our enforcement government branch, and I couldn’t rule it directly myself, only the council who I delegated to.
My first choice for replacement was the tier two goddess of war and wisdom, because none of the other tier-ones were suitable. I just didn’t think she’d say yes, but I had to try. Mandy was meeting us for coffee in just a few minutes, and I suspected Gary would be there too which would make it all even worse.
If government problems weren’t enough, my mind was also on Faith and my business. The programmer for the government database, or one of them, that I was about to attempt to poach. I suspected she’d be thrilled to do work with A.I.s and on the most advanced computers in the world. Not only the first fully stable quantum computers, but ones the size of a mustard seed, enhanced by magic, and implanted and powered by magic. The three additional ones I’d ordered for testing would be ready in the morning, so it made sense to contact her now. So after our coffee with Mandy, we’d be meeting Faith for a business lunch she’d dubiously agreed to attend out of curiosity.
That was only half of it though. We were also going to try to seduce her into our triad, making it a quadruple. Faith was… well she had a body built for sin, and the face of an angel, with gentle cheekbones and a heart shaped face that screamed innocence on a shallow level. Her body was amazing at five foot nine, with lush heart-shaped D cups, a juicy bubbled ass, and a tiny thin waist. She also had sexy legs that went on forever.
More than that, Faith was the rebirth of Peitho, goddess of persuasion and seduction. Her mantel made her seduce men and women, at least once a day, which led to a rather open lifestyle. It was our belief we could help her find a deeper relationship with our triad, because we all already respected her for her sharp mind, genius programming skills, and professionality.
Other men and gods had tried to be there for her, but eventually they’d fail to be there for her, and she’d have no choice but to cheat or break up with them. Lianne was confident I could handle it, and that she would enhance our triad by joining with it, but past the shallow match up there and the business match up, we had no idea if she’d be amenable to such an arrangement, or even if she’d be compatible with us. Just because she was bisexual didn’t mean she was open to polyamory for instance.
I could’ve pulled her whole life from the universal consciousness or akashic records to end some of that stress of not knowing, but I refused to use that ability in my personal life. It would suck all the fun and thrill of getting to know
my lovers the long way around, and the idea felt a bit creepy besides. I only used that power to search for plotters or hunters against me or the council, no more and no less.
But back to the source of my immediate surprise and worry.
“Misty. This is not a typical use of the spell.”
Misty replied, “No limits were specified on that magic, so I wrote a new routine because your nature is such that tactile contact is the best solution for calming your stress as a shifter. Between holding hands with Lianne, and my massage, I believe your bio readings are returning to normal. A sound or speech, or visual stimulation, would’ve been far less effective to lower your stress, sir.”
I sighed, unable to refute her logic, “Alright, but add it to the list anyway.”
The list being the list of things our programmer needed to check on, in relation to the A.I.s interaction protocols. Some oversteps were expected while having her engaged with preferences giving her the most freedoms, the most immersive experience to the user, including visual interaction with her illusory body through an illusion spell cast directly on my eyes.
She smirked, “Yes, sir. Anything else, sir?” she looked at me with mischievously teasing hope. Almost like she was suggesting she might give me a vibration massage somewhere other than my back, if I just asked. Like on my cock and balls for instance. But of course, that perversion was all me, she was just being cheeky. She was in fact, limited and programmed against such a thing even if I’d asked.
I just hated how much I doubted that, sometimes.
I snorted, “Not right now, no.”
Lianne teased, “I could give you a rub too, sir. Relieve some of your stress, Liam.” Okay, only half teasing, and I was fairly sure she was offering to do that rubbing with either her mouth or sex on mine. That time I was even right, given the scent of her arousal spiked just a bit.
I snickered, “Later, baby. We have enough time for a… quick and vigorous massage between meetings. Any advice?”
Lianne giggled, then nodded, and said rather breathily, “Ask for hers.”
“Sound plan, I should’ve thought of that myself.”
The flash of power was a little surprising, as I felt Kaya’s power instead of Gary’s arrive with Mandy.
Kaya was an eastern beauty with a soft exotic beauty of face, with raven black hair and dark stormy gray eyes. She was the rebirth of Nix, and she had so far been rather reserved around me. Though I was more surprised by Gary’s absence than her presence. She was just as much of an equal, so no difference there as far as looking out for Mandy’s interests, but I wondered if it signaled at least a small amount of grudging trust from the jealous god.
Mandy of course was the purpose of the meeting, and the rebirth of Athena. The goddess of wisdom, war, and crafts was five foot even, with buttery light blonde hair. She was petitely athletic and curvy, and she had a lot of positive energy, not all that different than Lianne that way, though in Mandy’s case it led her to be perky and exuberant constantly, as opposed to surges of manic reactions.
The two of them took the time to pick up a coffee, which was always a good sign in my head. When the gods came straight for me it usually meant it wouldn’t be a very productive meeting and rather strained as well. Then they joined us.
“Good morning,” I greeted them, though it was almost eleven it was still that.
Kaya nodded politely, while Mandy replied chirpily, “Good morning, Liam. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I love this place. Hi Lianne, long time no see, glad you’re moving up in the world,” she winked saucily, then turned her eyes back to me and visibly clamped her mouth shut. I knew of course that she tended to babble excitedly when nervous.
Lianne smiled, “Good to see you too, and thanks. Liam’s been wonderful.”
Mandy asked, “So what can I do for you?”
“Actually, I’m in a bit of a conundrum. I need to replace Bruce on the council, and none of the remaining tier-ones are suitable for it or would accept it. The problem is I don’t think my first choice of a replacement would be amenable to leaving her current career for the position.”
Mandy blinked.
Kaya giggled, “He means you, sunshine.”
Mandy bit her lip, “Ohmygod really?”
I nodded, “Almost any of the war gods would make a good general or field agent in charge, but I need someone that would be as effective in the board room and in creating a decent training program for rules of engagement in the various situations, appointing team leaders, and wrangling them all. You’re the obvious and best answer, even better than Bruce, by a mile.”
Mandy giggled nervously, “You really mean that.”
I shrugged, “You know you intimidated Nate, and you made him feel like an idiot. That’s the real reason he got rid of you, not because you were annoying, because you’re not.”
Kaya actually cracked a warm smile when I said that, if a reserved one.
Mandy just looked shocked for a moment, then I waited patiently and sipped my coffee, while I watched her face morph through several emotions as she raced through all the potentials and possibilities in her mind.
It was true enough, Nate hadn’t been stupid though or lacking intelligence, he’d just had no creativity or drive to modernize as he followed in Zeus’s footsteps. It never even occurred to the man that Zeus wasn’t the fount of wisdom he pretended to be while copying the ancient human’s style of rule.
She didn’t take too long, maybe two minutes to think it all through.
Mandy asked, “How much rope do I get?”
I smiled, “As much as you want.”
Mandy nodded, “Then I’ll work it like real job for a month. Get down rules, regulations, various rules of engagement based on race and situation, training programs, teams including chain of command, and a number of other things I won’t bore you with on an administration level. Then I’ll delegate almost all my responsibility save my position on the council. Darrell can handle operations if he has clear rules to follow, he won’t step out of line, while I think Carla would make a good trainer and head of our prison. After that I’ll show up at council meetings and phone in maybe five hours a week, just to keep up morale. Show up, check up on them, say hi, that kind of thing.
“Then I can get back to my research projects.”
She looked doubtful that I’d agree to such a thing.
I waved, “Kind of like what I’m doing? Delegating all the power, keeping an eye on things, but concentrating most of my focus on business and family?”
She blinked, then smiled, “Yes,” then she laughed in delight, “So your compromise to the others to keep you in check was really exactly what you wanted all along?”
No one ever said the goddess of wisdom was slow.
I chuckled, “Exactly, I’m kind of running things like a pack, though obviously with modifications since gods aren’t shifters, but the same basic framework came from my earlier life. Family and life balance is important to me as well, so it works out. Your plan sounds good to me, I have no doubt you’ll close up all the gaps. Bruce did a good job in principle, but he was a little too casual with a lot of things. I only tried to close one of those gaps, the one that had lives being endangered, but he ran things a little too loosely all over the place. I’ll honestly be surprised if you need me to clarify something, but you’re welcome to contact me anytime, with the same authority and access as the rest of the council. Just to be clear, your power level doesn’t lessen your importance on the council or your absolute authority over the responsibilities and power I’ve delegated to you. If anyone challenges your authority in matters of law enforcement, let me know immediately.”
She replied, “Thank you for your support and confidence, Liam. I won’t let you down.”
“Thank you for accepting the responsibility, it’s a worry off my mind, and you’re welcome. Umm, I understand your home wards detect compulsion.”
She nodded, “They do.”
“Good, I don’t expect any of the remaining council to do something like that, especially given three of your mates are tier-one gods, but you have my support as well to prevent such abuses.”
Nadia might do something like that, but she was too smart too, I think. Given her mates will no doubt be keeping a close eye on her.
