I think it was Bonnie that saved me from being hit hard, as a bright flash and beam of white light erased the spear from existence. My shield would’ve taken the hit, but better it didn’t have to.

Maris dumped water on our quarry’s head, and Levi got in the fight by hitting it with lightning electrifying the whole stream and grounding through our enemy.

She set herself to lunge forward, then jumped to the side instead and twisted her body as she swung for Janice, but Janice managed to duck under the slice and slash her sword against our enemy’s legs.

I could tell she was already thinking about retreating, she knew she couldn’t take on all three of us. Perhaps she was just hoping to get lucky and take one of us down before she had to.

I was a bit surprised when the shadows rose up around our bodies, and then I was in that empty place again that starved the five senses. Only to be spit out a split second later at least fifty feet away from our enemy. Maris, Janice, and me made a tripod each a hundred and twenty degrees apart with our enemy in the middle.

I realized why a second later as a coruscating ball lightning was just suddenly there, crackling around and coruscating around her body with wicked bolts connecting them. Then I got another surprise, as a second one struck her hard. From what Levi told me about that ability, he’d just blown four fifths of his power, eighty percent of it in two quick attacks.

At the same time, he drained eighty percent of her power, as her earth power shielded her and fought off that power at an equal exchange. Which only left her at just about five percent in power. It was our plan B, but I wasn’t arguing, and she hadn’t been prepared for the possibility. I’d take it, not wanting to drag this out any more than I had to. Obviously, Levi had been just as worried she’d try to escape with most of her power left, and while it wouldn’t have been easy for her to rip through the layers of ice, she’d surely had enough power to do so.

Before… anyway. Not so much anymore.

Or, maybe he’d just been really pissed she’d tried to take Janice’s head.

I immediately started to launch a procession of wind spheres over her head, which slammed her into the ground and kept slamming her into the ground, one every second. It held her still, and although the drain was only minor on her remaining five percent, Jack’s succession of spears hit her a lot harder.

I could see the dirt part as she desperately tried to escape, but she only sunk down six inches before her eyes widened in horror. I kept her stuck in there, blowing a powerful continuous wind now straight down, while Jack’s spears hit her over and over again. Each time the power was drained from them, and bounced away, and each time he used a tiny bit more power to attach another spirit which flew it up into the sky and back into another dive.

She was fucked and knew it, and she used the last dregs of her power to extend her life just a few moments more. She knew if she tried to break through the ice, she’d not only fail but it would consume the rest of her power.

I almost felt sorry for her, then remembered she was a heartless bitch and would’ve happily killed us all in her father’s name.

Our enemy was on fumes, and then the next spear didn’t bounce off, it impaled her and she cried out. I let the wind go.

Hali ended it then, painlessly and quickly, with a witch spell that stopped her heart and switched off her mind. With no power left to resist the magic, her body gave out.

We pulled her body out of the half hole, and then Shannon picked up the shield and sword. So much trouble they’d caused, I’d be happy to see the last of them.

She studied them for a moment, then they disappeared in a swirl of shadows.

  “Straight to the volcano.”

Jack said, “Good, without them my father won’t even consider raising her to try again. She’d be a danger to one of us in a solo fight maybe, but not with our allies or even just our mates.”

  Shannon asked, “Did you?”

Jack smirked, “You bet your perfect ass I did. Bitch is burning in the fourth circle right now. Who knows, father may even leave her there for failing him.”

Shannon asked with a grin, “Perfect?”

Jack nodded, and then pinched her ass.

I said, “Remind me not to piss you off,” also reminding them they weren’t quite alone, I’d felt a little like a voyeur seeing that exchange. Of course, Hali and Maris were pasted against my side in that moment, so I couldn’t exactly complain either. Glass houses, and all. Plus, we were all feeling very relieved, happy to be alive, and had a whole lot more adrenaline to work off, so it was understandable.

Jack shook his head, “I’d never do that to you, or even an enemy that didn’t earn it. She deserved it, trust me. Part of my power over the dead is I’m able to determine where they belong in the afterlife. She was a real piece of work, and nothing like us.”

I nodded, “Good fight though, and thank your coven for us.”

Jack grinned, “Will do, Shannon can drop you straight home?”

Levi said, “They’re probably waiting at the business, it hasn’t been all that long. Our cars are there anyway.”

Shannon took us back there, and it didn’t take longer than those five very long seconds or so. Disturbing way to travel, but really cool in a way.

“We’ll stay a couple of more days? We’ll find a house for rent tomorrow, and then move into it on Saturday. We’ll also pick up a new Explorer too.”

I figured that’d take all day, and our beach day would have to be put off another week. Rent a truck, sift the wreckage, repair what we could with magic, and then drive it over to the new house and set it all up.

Levi nodded, and Janice said, “That’s more than fine.”

We all got into the cars, and we headed back to Levi’s.

I wasn’t sure what was next. House, cars, build our new permanent mansion for six mates and lots of kids. Help build a plant and flower nursery. Keep up with my friendships, I was very much looking forward to our day at Allison’s on Sunday. Not to mention family hobby days, eventually we’d find a good diverse list of things we all liked to do on our weekend. I knew other threats would be coming, but so was my son or daughter with Hestia. The good of my world was definitely worth the bad parts.

Whatever happened next, I’d be doing it with my four monster mates, and my two lovely demigoddesses at my side. Family, mates, allies, and friends. That was the part that made this crazy life worth living…

  Afterword:

I hope you enjoyed the story. This was the final book of a trilogy. I might revisit this world sometime in the future, but I have no current plans for another series in this world.

If you can, please take the time to leave a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads. Reviews are the lifeblood of independent authors, and they have a bigger impact than you’d believe.
