“Is that so?” She smiled too.

“Oh, it is. I want you to marry me, have babies with me, go to church with me, all those things that couples do. And I’m willing to start today if you’ll have me.”

She flung her arms around his neck and drew him in close. She planted a kiss on his mouth. It was firmer than she intended, but it was a kiss. When she pulled back, she said, “I would love nothing more.”

It was hard to believe that his Opal obsession was what had drawn them together. It might also be what kept them together forever. She honestly did need his protection. What until he found that out!

  ****

Levi stood at the front of the church. The sanctuary was packed with people. People who had helped them to make it on their wild journey, like Blake. Levi and Mae had gone to the church that had helped them and asked to be married there. Then they’d asked the pastor to invite all the homeless that came for meals regularly to attend the wedding.

They had decided that was something they wanted to do. They were going to work with the church to serve the homeless. Mae’s grant proposal had already been chosen and their project would be fully funded.

In the back rows of the church were all the people who had helped them from behind the scenes. Rory Chance and his wife Hannah who ran the Redeemed Soldiers group sat in the middle of the room with several children. Trevor Jacobs and his wife Janie had a son and a daughter who sat perfectly still beside them. Jack and Raylyn Williams were close by. He knew they had children, but he figured they must have been left at home because he didn’t see any with them.

Jace Holtstead was a beast. He overshadowed his red-headed wife Lily. Logan and Aubrey Armstrong entered with their son and daughter. Logan had to come in sideways because of his crutches, but he’d made it.

And last but not least was his family, Leah and Tom. They had brought their two kids and settled closer to the front. Without his parents there, he’d asked them to be of his family.

As the wedding march began to play, Levi turned his attention to the back of the room. He was the bridegroom. God had given him this opportunity to make his life even more fulfilling than it already had been. Soon he would have a loving wife to go with his loving family of friends.

Truly all things were possible with God.

  Epilogue

Ericka Stone had witnessed some major life events in the last week. Levi had ended his Opal Obsession and married Mae. It had been a beautiful ceremony that she’d been pleased to be a part of.

The church had been wall to wall with people. How could two people have so many friends?

  She’d asked herself that often.

She would have loved to have known the answer.

Cheers and the clank of glass went around the room. Bill’s retirement party was at Gatsby’s Bar. It was named for the great Gatsby himself. Since most of the officers were on duty, they were drinking root beer, although one would never known it with the way they behaved.

Ericka nursed her own cup of the caramel-colored liquid. She smiled and lifted the drink into the air for yet another toast.

After the kidnapping, Bill was done. The father losing his mind over losing his child was more than Bill could take. His own daughter had suffered at the hand of a perp many years before. It was something that Bill didn’t really like to talk about.

After learning about Bill’s retirement, she was floundering. Then she’d been called to see Captain Miller. He hadn’t been really happy about how the incident with the kidnapping had gone down, but she’d been called in for another reason.

  The request…

The request that she join another unit in another part of the United States burned a hole in her jacket pocket. She had no choice; she was moving and starting a new job. Not that it mattered since her only friend was set to go fishing now for the rest of his life.

As she watched those in the room celebrate, she realized this wasn’t the end of her career, just a new beginning.

Ericka looked forward to what was to come.

  Author’s Note

Thank you for joining me on this journey through the Redeemed Soldiers series. I have enjoyed every character that I’ve given life too. Some have become my all-time favorites.

As I wrote one story another character seemed to come to life without me even trying. Now I must say they are played out. Sadly, all good things must come to an end.

Feel free to read my other Christian romance series such as, Meaningful Numbers and the Haywood Brothers. I also have a YA paranormal romance series, a historical romance series, and several series that run like serials, all clean and filled with romance and suspense.

I will also be starting a new project very soon. Ericka Stone is a tough cop who is going to go on many adventures. I hope you’ll join me for the first one, Freelance, which will be available September 15, 2023.

Please take time to leave me a review. That helps authors more than you know.

  Thank you for reading!
