  “You go,” Lily said. “I’m not giving that control freak the satisfaction.”

  CC glanced around but couldn’t see the couple. “I think they’ve left.”

  Lily shrugged and CC realised that the information wasn’t enough to change her cousin’s mind.

  “Are you sure?” she checked. “It means we’ll both be walking home alone.”

  Lily laughed. “The only danger is tripping over a wombat or a lost koala.”

  She turned and drifted back to the deck in a way only Lily could, and was instantly absorbed by a group.

  CC stared after her. Lily preached peace and tranquillity, and inside the family she was known for avoiding all disharmony. What the hell had happened to make her the target of a very angry woman? And more to the point, why was she unfazed by it?
