“That’s incredible.” Bryn didn’t hide her amazement. “Would he be able to move others too? That’s such an astonishing ability with so many possible uses.”
~I don’t see why not. Maybe not at the current level of his spiritual power, but in the future, it might be possible for him.~ Umbra nodded again.
“Awesome! With how quickly Master grows stronger, it will happen in a flash, for sure!” Miria grinned widely
“So, black True Dragons truly have something to do with darkness, just as their saying goes.” Asterios mused. “I wonder how much of that aspect I can actually utilize with the unusual way that I’m connected to Black. From what I’ve seen in the volcano realm, I might still be connected directly to him, but the river of onyx lava leading to my volcano was extremely thin and so long that it ran far into the horizon without being interrupted anywhere.”
“Now that I think about it, your Dragon form was mostly crimson like the scales on your skin always were, but it had some small, ebony details here and there. Your talons definitely turned pure black now, and so did your horns and spikes over your spine. This might be the visible proof of your mixed bloodline.” Grea tapped her cheek. “I wonder if you can breathe black fire now too. Or if there are any other things you can do that you weren’t able to before.”
“Who knows?” Asterios shrugged. “We will have to try and see. Just partially mastering my draconic form will be a challenge. Hopefully, Miria and Selene will give me some tips on how to fight and live as a beast.”
“Leave it to us, Master!” Miria showed him thumbs up.
“We shall share everything we know with you, my Lord.” Selene hid her ladylike smile behind her slender hand.
“Should we move back to the Spire before the celebratory party starts, then?” Silvia asked after a moment of silence descended upon their table.
“Yeah. Let’s see if Atra, Sidr, and the others need some help.” Asterios nodded. “I feel pretty rested after our joint bath and dinner.”
The girls agreed and they finished up the leftovers before leaving the restaurant. Since the distance wasn’t that great, Umbra moved Asterios back to the Spire pretty much in a blink. But, since the Aegis was up, they weren’t able to make it past the barrier and they had to resurface in a relatively safe spot just near it. The shield was so powerful that even the Lord of Shadows had no way of penetrating or bypassing it this easily.
Asterios brought his wings out and flew to the top of the dome, where the valkyrjas being on the duty of pulling the arriving individuals in were located. He was spotted immediately and one of the women took him past the rainbowy surface, thanking him for his hard work. He exchanged some courtesies with the other ladies and dove towards the ground, disappearing in the shadow cast by one of the buildings.
This time, he reappeared next to the mystical healing chamber, surprising the few valkyrjas who were in the corridor. After being politely asked, they confirmed that Atra and Sidr were still inside so the girls joined him through the summoning gates and they moved in together.
As expected, a bunch of medical beds were taken by the wounded soldiers either awaiting treatment due to the seriousness of their injuries or resting briefly after the treatment. About a dozen valkyrjas tended to them and roamed all over the place, already pretty familiarized with the equipment, unexpired supplies, and general location of everything else.
Ast’s group quietly approached the miraculous artifact device and watched Atra operate the control panel right next to it while one of the warriors lay on the designated table right below the magical contraption. Golden streaks of spiritual energy flowed into the patient’s body as multiple different formations and magical circles floated above their heads, forming different combinations and cascading over each other. Right before their eyes, the woman that looked to be poisoned by Scourge blood gradually regained her vitality and color.
“I think I’m getting a hang of this.” Atra smiled proudly as the healing process was nearing its end. “The information you shared with me certainly is of huge help with that.”
“You will have a chance to study it in more detail after things calm down a little bit. I’ll be there to aid you, of course. Plus, there surely have to be some more records about this device hidden in this chamber. Or somewhere else in the Spire,” Bryn said.
“If you stumble on any notes or books written in an unidentified language, bring them to us. They might be in Draconic and contain some useful research on this thing,” Asterios added.
“We will surely do so.” Another voice joined them and everyone turned towards Sidr as she walked up to them.
“Supervisor Sidr. How are things looking outside and inside?” he asked.
“The city should be clean as of now. We aren’t yet sure about the entirety of the Spire but it shouldn’t take that much longer before we confirm that every single corner hides no more monsters,” the golden-clad woman answered. “Things are looking good. Great even. This is a massive victory for our people. We weren’t able to completely avoid losses, but everyone was aware of the dangers behind this operation. All the fallen valkyrjas will be remembered as heroes, just like your group.”
“We must have taken too long to activate the barrier.” Asterios sighed quietly. “I apologize for their valiant sacrifice. Their honorable and brave stand stopped the Scourge from swarming us even more before the full activation of Tyr’s Aegis.”
“There’s no need to blame yourselves for anything that happened. If not for you, we wouldn’t even have a chance of reclaiming what was rightfully ours.” Sidr shook her head.
“Bryn, could you assist me with this one? I might need an additional pair of hands for the treatment.” Atra glanced at them as two other valkyrjas brought another patient, looking way worse than the previous woman.
“Of course. Make me some space.” Bryn nodded as her increasing focus started being visible on her usually gentle expression.
As the two began to work in tandem, Sidr returned her gaze to Asterios and the girls.
“I take it that you rested well enough for now. What are your plans after this? And I don’t mean the celebration,” she asked.
“As we briefly mentioned earlier, we will see if the artifact device can be of any use against the seal that was put on my memories. There’s no rush so we can wait until everyone is treated to do that. Besides, we might want to study the materials we gathered once more to understand it better,” Asterios answered.
“We will definitely explore the Spire in more detail now too,” Tina added. “We might find more documents related to Ast or this place.”
“In the end, we will definitely stay as your guests for a little while if that’s not an inconvenience,” Silvia informed Sidr with a respectful nod.
“Of course not. We will always gladly welcome you to our ARK. I can’t guarantee the same treatment in the other ones, but maybe they will follow suit after the news about your deeds reaches them.” The Supervisor smiled kindly.
“Thank you.” Asterios made a small bow. “As for the rest of our plans, we should pay a visit to my home realm at least once to let our friends and relatives know that we are okay and to check on the progress they made when we’ve been gone. We aren’t sure about anything past that, yet. It might depend on what we manage to find and accomplish here.”
“If there’s anything you may need, please, let us know.” Sidr reciprocated the bow with the same. “We will try our best to aid you in your search or get in touch with other ARKs if you will ever need or want to travel to them.”
“You might want to have a talk with Brage’s Council first then, Supervisor.” Atra smirked lightly as she joined them in the moment of rest she had between the treatments.
“Maybe their opinion about Asterios will change after they see him in his Dragon form.” Bryn chuckled lightly.
“I feel like—”
“AH!” Atra’s sudden shout interrupted Grea and everyone flinched. “Bryn! Your halo!”
“What?” Bryn frowned and attempted to look up. “What’s wrong with it?”
“Great gods and ancestors…” Sidr whispered in shock as her eyes widened to the brim.
“It’s exactly like in the ancient records depicting the first Sky Queen! How?! What did you do?!” Atra barraged her best friend with intense questions.
Everyone’s attention was now on Bryn’s head and Silvia brought a decently big hand mirror out of her spatial storage, handing it to the golden-haired Valkyrie.
Her usual, simple, round halo in the shape of a glowing ring, changed into something much more complex and intricate.
That single ring wasn’t the only part of it now. Two arcs appeared on the same flat plane outside of it, long for about a quarter of the circle and located opposite to each other diagonally, both ending in a thin spike pointing outwards, one north and the other south. The areas uncovered by the arcs had a similar curve attached to the inner ring, also decorated with perpendicular spikes and complex lines. Some small marks and details filled the inner side of the ring too.
Bryn raised her gaze from the mirror and found Ast’s eyes. They both stared at each other in shock and surprise.
Asterios smiled wryly to himself. It looked like they would have to add one more point to their plans inside Bryn’s realm.
END OF VOLUME VII
Afterword
Welcome, welcome! I’m glad to see You here again! For the seventh time right now! Thank You for living through this story alongside me and everyone else. It’s definitely a journey, one that I love wholeheartedly. It’s a blast for me and I hope for You too.
So, we’ve had a lot of things happen in this volume. Our first proper journey into another realm. Will there be more? I don’t know. Maybe. There is that hint of an adventure in Miria’s and Selene’s world, and who knows what other dimensions we might discover along the way. I think this was the longest arc in the story so far. The entire book was spent in Bryn’s world. It was getting seriously long near the end but I would hate to finish things on a short notice so we took one more month to wrap things up. I hope it wasn’t too tiring but I loved every moment we spent amongst the valkyrjas.
Last time, we had Grea and Silvia join our small group, now it was only Bryn, but I feel like she needed a bit more time due to her character and her own issues. We all know how she is. I think she will feel much better now amongst her new friends and I wonder how will that affect our shy Valkyrie. Well, we will see soon, for sure.
Same as in the previous volume, I would like to thank everyone who picked this book up and gave it a chance. And everyone else that keeps supporting my suddenly revealed passion, helping this dream become true.
Every single like, comment, feedback is a huge help and means a lot to us, authors. That said, leaving a rating or a brief review here, on Amazon, surely is a huge thing too. If you have some spare time, please, feel free to give your thoughts about the story. Anywhere. I read them all. Always. I love talking with readers on my Discord.
Thanks again and see you all in the next volume!
What’s Next?
Well, we are past a great adventure. Our heroes are still in another world, and they have just discovered something quite surprising, right?
You don’t have to worry, though. This won’t suddenly drag out for another half of a book or something. We will be wrapping up our adventure in Heven and returning back home. It’s time Asterios and the team check up on their lovely little town. After that? Who knows. I bet they would like to relax a bit and laze around, discovering and examining the changes that happened to their bodies after Ast regained his second Heart. Will everything go according to their wishes? I bet you know the answer.
One thing is for sure, their lives won’t ever be boring. Especially now, that they are growing so much stronger, learning more details about the universe they all live in.
