“Sure. Shoot.”
Over the last week, Travis had learned to appreciate Archie’s directness. In another time and another place, he wondered if he and Archie would’ve been friends. They were completely different, that was for sure, but there was a boldness about Archie that Travis respected.
“I’m sorry that Catherine hasn’t been in touch. She’s been on the move, tying off the last bits of this operation.”
“Ercan Onan?”
“Yes, it includes Mr. Onan. He’s come to a rather inauspicious end, courtesy of a joint operation between the Yankees and the Brits, along with many of his other Desert Indigo investors. It turns out that the Stewarts were part of Desert Indigo. Given the fact that Tom and Shelley are now deceased, we may never know how they got drawn into it.”
Travis frowned, “That would explain why they went after me. I was one of the only people that could tie Tom to Ercan through Meset Gul.”
“That certainly does appear to be the case, but with both of them dead, it will be a more difficult situation to prove. I do have some good news, though,” Archie said, his voice brightening.
“What’s that?”
“A few hours ago, I was notified that the terrorist assassin formerly known as Agnes has died. From what we’ve been able to piece together, Shelley Stewart tracked her using her contacts at Homeland Security, ambushed her, and killed her at a seedy motel outside of New York City in a small berg called Floral City. Shot in the back. Never saw it coming, the poor girl.”
Travis frowned. Shelley had taken out Agnes? “So the bounty on my head is gone?”
“That’s correct. You are a free man!”
“Thanks, Archie. I appreciate everything.”
“You take care of yourself, Agent Bishop. MI6 is always available if you need us.”
“Thanks. No disrespect meant, but I hope we never talk again.”
Archie chuckled. “None taken.”
As Travis hung up the phone with Archie, a trail of dust appeared on the driveway. He sat, watching it. A minute later, the pickup truck stopped, rolling down the passenger side window. Ellie. “You gonna sit there all day or are you gonna come give me a hand with all these horses?” she said, smiling.
“Yes, ma’am,” Travis said, pushing himself up to standing. “I’m on my way.”
