Love's Healing Power (New Beginnings Book 1),
p.19
“The essence of our faith.”
Mac placed a kiss on the top of Tess’s head and cradled her closer. “That, and our ability to love another totally and unconditionally as we love our Father in Heaven.”
“I do have one condition to place on you continuing your work at the halfway house.”
She looked into his face in time to see him arch a brow. “Oh?”
The smile that graced her lips filled her with such love for the man next to her. “I want to volunteer alongside you. What is important to you is important to me.”
“And I suppose you’ll want me in the delivery room when our first child is born.”
“Of course, holding my hand.”
He bent forward and touched his lips to hers. “I’ll be there every time.”
Epilogue
Johnny raced ahead of the large group emerging from the courthouse. “It’s done. It’s done. I am official.”
Tess paused at the top of the stairs and watched the boy dance. Amy joined him, shouting her joy.
Mac came up behind Tess and wrapped his arms around her, resting his chin on her shoulder. “Do you think our son is excited?”
“No. What makes you think that?”
“Oh, the silly grin on his face, the fact he’s waving the adoption papers around for everyone to see.”
Tess turned her head slightly to glance at her husband. “Johnny’s now legally a member of the family. He’s still in remission with high odds in his favor that it will stay that way. You know this year can’t get any better.”
“I don’t know about that.” Mac laid his hand over her rounded stomach. “I’d say in about three months it will.”
Amy ran up the stairs and tugged on her father’s pant leg. “Come on. Aunt Casey said we need to hurry. Remember the party? Everyone is waiting.”
“What party?” Mac asked, his eyes bright with humor.
Amy twisted her mouth in a frown, her brow wrinkled. “The party to celebrate. I want some ice cream and cake before it’s all gone.”
Casey stopped next to Tess and Mac. “You know, the cake that says Welcome To The Family, Johnny and Colt.”
“The MacPhersons are growing by leaps and bounds,” Mac said, noticing Colt take his sister’s hand.
Tess smiled at the thought of her family. “And I’m gonna be a beached whale walking down that aisle next month as your matron of honor, Casey.”
Mac planted a soft kiss on Tess’s cheek. “But a beautiful beached whale.”
Dear Readers,
My mother, who has passed away, was a nurse all her life. I can remember her talking about her work and how much joy she got from being a nurse and helping others during difficult times in their lives. The story of Tess and Mac is a story about giving oneself to others and to God. Faith is what can sustain a person through those difficult times and even strengthen him.
This series is about new beginnings—a chance to redo your life and believe in yourself. We all need a second chance—often many times throughout our life.
Take care,
Margaret Daley
