  “You thought of everything.”

“Surprised?” He came up behind her and drew her against him.

“No, not really. I’m discovering how romantic my husband can be.” She turned in his loose embrace so she could face him. “It’s been a wonderful year.”

  “It’s been a life-altering year.”

The warm look in his eyes, so filled with love, melted her against him. “And the life-altering part isn’t over with.”

A silent question entered his expression. “You went to the doctor?”

“Yes, I couldn’t wait until tomorrow. You know me and surprises. He confirmed we’re going to have a baby.”

Andrew’s shout for joy echoed through the empty house as he whirled her around.

“I take it you’re happy about the baby,” she said when he settled her feet on the concrete floor.

“Yes. As happy as I was the day I married you.” He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her with all his love in it.

  Dear Reader,

For many years I worked with students with special needs. I wanted to write about the students I was fortunate to work with each day. I wanted to show what a wonderful gift these students are to society. They have hopes and dreams like everyone else. They enjoy working, and they enjoy playing sports. I coached Special Olympics for years and think this organization is a worthy one. I have gotten such joy from seeing one of my students participate in a sport, and whether he won or not, didn’t matter. You can volunteer with Special Olympics in your state. They can always use a person to congratulate an athlete when he has crossed the finish line whether he is first or last.

I hope you enjoy Sadie and Andrew’s story and the blessings a student with special needs can bring to a person. Again, I want to thank God for giving me the chance to teach students with such a zeal for life and an unconditional love for others.

  Take care,

  Margaret Daley
