She’d shared her fears about giving her heart to anyone because they had all betrayed her in one way or another, Alan, Ian, Sugar Daddy—she couldn’t even remember the man’s name. What did that say about her? After that litany of disasters, he’d been hesitant to lock her in, to force her to commit. But he solemnly promised never to leave, to love her always, just so long as she stayed with him and they made a life together.

She pulled her jockey close, knowing his thoughts. This athlete had touched her life like no other. When he’d broken the maiden on a no account claimer after she’d taken over the colt’s training, she knew they had what it took to win—not just races—but to win at life. She’d asked him that night, and he’d said yes, “Oh, hell yes.”

“Tick-tock, lover. Ghost isn’t going to exercise himself.”

“Just a few more minutes, Suz.”

With a leer on his face, he pressed her thighs apart seeking the warm slickness, probing tenderly, mindful of her belly and their precious child. He rocked inside her gently until she moaned softly and gripped his hips, thrusting against him, until she thought she’d go mad as the waves of pleasure vibrated up and down her thighs.

Manny moaned, “I’m not going to have enough strength in my legs now to breeze Ghost. I doubt I can even walk, woman.”

She gave him a swat on the butt as he rolled off the bed. Glancing critically at his physique she admonished, “No donuts, hon. You’ve got to lose three pounds by next week otherwise you’ll get that gelding’s owner madder ’n hell.”

  “Shit.”

While he got dressed, he grumbled about how it was bad enough he had to schmooze owners and trainers … and now she wanted to starve him to death.

“I don’t want to hear it. We have a stable full of clients. You have your own horse to train and ride, and Rosa’s coming this summer to be your exercise jockey.” She rubbed her protruding belly and laughed, “Seeing how I’m not getting on a horse in the foreseeable future.”

He chucked her under the chin. “Love you, babe.”

“Ride chilly, big man. Love you.”
