“Two-toned?” Hallr stared down as the pup struggled into Leo’s lap and flopped over his leg with a watery mewl. The twins nosed in, sniffing cautiously at the little Drake, his silvery spines trailing down his back.
“Drake,” Leo cooed. “Luka, precious boy.” The pup fanned its wet wings and flopped weakly, standing on shaking legs as it finally got the hang of its feet.
“He’s definitely a Scandinavian Drake, but that little silver belly.” Gabriel cooed sweetly and Hallr stared, stunned. He pulled out his camera, took a snapshot of the pup, and sent it out.
Erik responded to the photo. Excuse me, what! What? Is that Luka? Hallr leaned the phone over toward Gabriel and Sacha to show them the response.
“Leo. We need to get our pup home now. Are you okay?” Hallr swallowed hard.
Leo cooed with delight and nodded, scooping Luka up to his chest. “Sorry, Dad, Pops, but we’re going to get home now before I get all scaley and grr.”
“Right. You two have fun. Your brothers will be hatching in a few weeks.” Gabriel waved Leo out, and Hallr collected the shell reverently. He stared, a little pale and shaken.
“What was that all about?” Gabriel petted over his eggs and looked toward the door strangely. “The color seemed to upset Hallr. I’ll call him later.”
Sacha stared and blinked a few times then glanced back at their clutch.
“His clan has old tales about two-toned dragons like that.” Sacha smiled as he slipped into the nest.
“Oh?” Gabriel curled up with their eggs, greeting each of them by name. “Hello, Azrael, Daniel, Zaquiel, and Sariel.”
Sacha stared at their nest of angels and shook his head. “From Hallr’s clan’s perspective? We just witnessed the hatching of a king.”
