“Fucking seriously,” Joel snarled as he threw her out onto the road.
There, the demonic woman yelped in pain as she tumbled and rolled. Joel flicked his sword around and closed in. This thing had forced him to listen to his lovers burn and die. It invaded their minds. Trapped them in horrible experiences and had finally tried to end him permanently. With a roar of anger, Joel swung up the sword, and was about to bring it down when she covered her head in her arms.
“I surrender.”
Joel blinked.
The woman trembled, shifting her arms slightly to look up at him when she didn’t feel the edge of a sword slicing into her. She threw her arms forward, glee on her face. He flinched and tried to dodge. Three yellow beams hit him. One in the middle of her sternum, another in the stomach, with a third burning into his shoulder. Joel roared in pain as he dropped his sword. The woman rolled to her feet with a mad cackle before screaming as an arrow erupted from her chest.
Joel turned and saw Jess in the doorway. Behind her was Amanda, who rushed out. Both the ladies were wearing a bra and panties, which was more than Joel realized he was wearing. Jenny appeared next, blinking into view, before slashing at the solidified ghost of a woman. Who, unfortunately, had been prepared this time, and dodged the moment Jenny had vanished. It saved her from the stab, but she still cried out as Jenny’s blades carved a groove down her side.
“Where’s Luneira?!” Joel roared as he spun to keep the ghostly woman before him.
“Alive, but down!” Jess answered. “Buster’s down too!”
“Fuck,” Joel grumbled.
“But Fluffy’s itching for a try out.”
Joel twitched. “Fluffy?”
He turned and almost had a heart attack as the bear-sized eaer burst out of a portal. And… fluffy was a word. Not even a particularly inaccurate one. Fluffy charged the ghostly woman, who turned and gave the eaer a blast of those same energy beams. They burned into Fluffy’s plush exterior without harming the creature beneath.
Jenny had enough time to take one more vicious swipe at the strange woman before Fluffy lunged. She let out a piercing scream as Fluffy dragged her down. It wasn’t like Buster, who would snap at the heels and harry. Fluffy had no qualms about body-checking their opponent. Joel hurried over before wincing. The woman was crying out in pain as Fluffy bit down. Two elongated fangs, slightly smaller than what had pierced Josephine were sunk deeply into her chest. If this demonic woman were human, that bite would have been fatal in moments.
“DIEDIEDIE!” she screeched, pumping more of those yellow blasts into Fluffy’s soft underbelly.
While the eaer quickly changed its mind about the method of its attack. Joel swung into position once more. As the giant fluffy spider pulled away, Joel swung his sword down. The tip of the sword pierced the demon’s skull, like a pick in soft stone. She jerked as her eyes spasmed before Joel yanked it back out again.
Her eyes stared vacantly into the morning light, while Fluffy made soft whistling noises. Like the whimpering of a pup, but softer and at a much higher pitch. Jess hurried over to check for injuries while Joel came to the slow realization that he was standing buck naked in the middle of the street.
“Ah, Jess,” Joel called softly.
“Is she dead?”
Joel glanced down at the corpse. Then, he nodded to himself. “Yeah, pretty sure she’s dead, but ahh… that’s not the issue?”
“Joel, I’m a little—”
“Jess, we’re standing in the middle of the fucking street in our underwear, or in my case, with my dick swinging in the breeze.”
Jess froze, then looked up. Several sets of curtains suddenly flicked back, and at least one front door slammed. Margaret across the street was slowly shaking her head as she tried her best to ignore the situation as she apparently started an early morning walk, and even Marlene was looking outside with her hair in a mess like she’d scrambled out to help.
“Right,” Jess said and stood. “Come on, Fluffy. Let’s get you inside.”
“I can’t believe you have a pet of one of those things,” Amanda whimpered as the eaer had to turn itself up on a forty-five degree angle to squeeze through the doorway into the living room.
Only once it was in, Joel watched the eaer shrink down to the size he’d have expected to have climbed out of one of the egg sacs. It was still enormous for any regular earth sized spider. Even those giant Australian fuckers. But now he was busy climbing up Jess’s leg and continued all the way up until he settled on her shoulder like some horrific parrot.
“Y’know what, I’m just not going to say anything.” Joel shook his head and made his way to the bedroom once more. There, he saw Luneira, who looked like she was recovering from a hangover, but managed a pained smile and waved him off when he approached.
Ignoring the gaping hole in the wall, Joel got out some clothes for the day. Then, he ducked into the shower. He was covered in dust and debris from the fight, and he wasn’t about to put clothes on over the top of it all.
The cool water from the shower felt wonderful on his warmed-up muscles. Washing his hair got a little messy. The dust from the broken plaster caused it to mat slightly, and he had to work it free for a few minutes. Which he did with the water off, knowing it was a finite resource. And when he emerged a few minutes later, dressed and ready for his day, there was Dale in the living room.
“Morning,” the man said and nodded at Joel.
“I’ll leave you to it,” Jess said. She was dressed, but it looked like the outfit she had been wearing the day before.
“I’ll come with you,” Amanda said, turning to follow. She, too was dressed in dirty clothes.
Joel shook his head and turned back to Dale, who pointed at the gaping hole in the wall. “I was a plasterer a decade ago. We’ll cut some sheet from one of the units next door. There’s plenty of putty around, so we’ll fix this up in no time.”
“That easy?” Joel asked.
Dale nodded. “Most things are. You’re just tricked into thinking they’re difficult by some bigwig slapping a qualification on top of it.”
“Fair enough,” Joel mumbled. “Do you want payment?”
“Nah,” Dale said with a shake of his head. “This is one of those settlement things. You’ve looked after my people, I’m not opposed to helping out.”
“Well, keep me in mind if you need anything,” Joel said with a pat his shoulder.
“I’ll do that,” Dale said before stepping out the front door.
Joel looked around the room. Then outside. Then did a full three-sixty. “Where the fuck is—”
“Here, master,” Jenny blinked into view, directly in front of him.
Joel flinched, and despite her stoic expression, Joel had the sense his reaction had amused her.
“Is—”
“I was disposing of the body.” She bowed her head slightly.
“Body,” Joel nodded. “Right, that… Good job.”
“Thank you, master.” Jenny’s lips curled slightly. “Have I earned a reward?”
“Ah…” Joel frowned. “I… I don’t think I want to start an expectation of rewards for… labor,” he said, struggling with the thought. “But… if you want something, I’m always happy to hear what you want.”
“Oh,” Jenny said and nodded slowly. “I see.”
Joel waited to see if she was going to elaborate before sighing. “Was there something you actually wanted?”
“Oh yes,” Jenny said with an eager grin.
Joel let out a long sigh. “Jenny, what is it you want?”
“Sex,” she replied immediately. “With the foreplay. I wish to experience the orgasm again. Then if she is amenable, I would like the foreplay again, but with Luneira.”
Joel sat for a moment before nodding slowly. “Let’s see how Luneira feels tonight, and see how we go?”
“So…” Jess snickered.
Joel let out a sigh as he stopped to take a drink of water. It had been a quiet day. With Mitch down, and Nicola’s group on a friendly footing, most of the town as settled as it was going to get. Now, with the eaer cleaned out, it was just… quiet. So quiet that Joel had led his small team on a walk down to the highway. To everyone’s surprise, it wasn’t all that busy. It wasn’t like the apocalypse stories where all the traffic would bank up around the cities and interchanges. It was just… empty. There were one or two dotted about, but one of those had a sticker in the window saying it was abandoned and the police were aware of it. Another had a flat tire and looked to have been there a while as well.
Joel shook his head and looked up. Impyle were about, but they were keeping very, very distant from him.
“Feels weird walking up here,” Jess pointed out.
“It doesn’t help that we walked up the off-ramp,” Amanda pointed out.
“Doesn’t matter anymore,” Joel said and shrugged. “Let’s take a walk. I wanna see what happens.”
Jess and Amanda nodded, while Luneira and Jenny watched on in confusion. They weren’t aware of how the modern world worked. Their own histories, or what they could remember of them, were very, very different. So they followed along, marveling at yet another wonder of the strange, endless and perfect roads that must have made this world a marvel.
The calm, flat surface made travel easy. They crossed an overpass, though from here the view was poor. With a second highway for traffic heading north, Joel couldn’t see the far side. There was smoke in a few places. Thin trails that looked more like camps than danger. Joel made a note and wondered if he’d find more people like Mitch. Or more like Nicola.
She had stayed put. They’d passed some of her people on the way out. A couple of them were following behind at a distance. At first, they’d tried to be sneaky about it, but instead they just looked silly, walking along the highway within shouting distance behind them.
They walked for a time. The day grew warmer under the sun. The pavement grew hot. Joel carried enough water for all of them and shared it out. He left a spare bottle behind for their shadows. Which in turn led to those shadows catching up and sticking much closer.
Finally, the river ahead of them came into view. The highway was raised up well enough to see it in the distance. The swirl on the horizon was bracketed by trees. Joel could see all the way over. Which was when his vision pinged.
CONGRATULATIONS!
#!%@ and *****!!! Would like to offer sincere congratulations for being the third being to form a territorial boundary outside their settlement. These lands will have a lower incursion chance at a base level, so long as the borders are patrolled on regular intervals.
As you are the third to achieve this feat. There will be no boons awarded. However, you have been granted a vassal.
Joel had just finished reading when a portal similar to Jess’s summoning of Buster snapped open. Joel threw his arms out as the ladies yelped in shock, as a familiar-looking, six-armed woman stepped out onto the road before them.
“M-master,” she said, giving a small bow. “How may I serve?”
Beaten but not for good. The necromancer-turned-lich still prowls the land, and the only one who can find him is Dara Eolande.
What better excuse does Dara have, to travel the realm in search? Why, but a tour to celebrate her recent wedding, to the Princess Alvar.
Things aren't all quiet though. Politics, corruption and the normal worries of the world, emphasised by the meddling of the deranged lich. For it too, has the whispers of a higher power guiding it.
Balance must be preserved.
Contains adult elements not suitable for children, involving a futa MC with a taste for attractive women and the occasional stat sheet.

There is no cure. Everyone is infected. They’re always coming.
Three truths to the world as we know it. Not the work of some long dormant god. Nor the work of mother nature. But by the folly of man.
Evolution 2.0
It was supposed to be a miracle.
It cured cancer and genetic disorders. It bolstered the human lifespan by decades and even reversed the ravages of time. Humanity at its greatest.
It was only after administering it to the population at large. That someone infected with Evolution 2.0 inevitably died. Accidents, violence, and while distant, even age. Death comes to us all and with little warning. When the dead can rise behind you, safety is fleeting and before long there were millions.
And they know where we are.
Those that survived, live aboard slow-moving life trains. Endlessly circling the mainland of what once was the United States. As tens-of-millions of evos stagger around in the center, drawn towards an endlessly moving target.
If a train makes an unscheduled stop. It better be for a damn good reason.
