They smiled and said they were getting all moved in, and he looked relieved.
After dinner, a number of pack members piled plants and small appliances and other presents into Phoenix’s car and wished him and Hanna the best on their first home together. Phoenix and Hanna drove to the grocery store for one last trip before they settled into their house for their first night out in the country.
He got steaks; she got fixings for s’mores.
“I thought you were going to dump me if I didn’t agree to buy the house,” she said while they were trying to remember everything they needed to set up housekeeping.
He was pushing the basket, and she was grabbing flour, sugar, and spices. “I should have known you really wanted the house. You would make a terrific poker player.”
She chuckled.
Then they were finally home, ditching their jackets, scarves, gloves, hats, boots, and socks, unpacking their groceries and gifts. Other than putting the refrigerated goods away, Phoenix figured none of the rest of the stuff mattered for now. Not when they had other business they needed to attend to.
They still hadn’t hung pictures, boxes were filled with their household goods, and they had to make their bed. But when he swept her up in his arms and headed into the master bedroom, he discovered she’d found the sheets and made the bed just for them.
He’d figured they would be making love on the bare mattress, floor, anywhere would do, but he was glad they had a made bed for their mating.
“You planned this all along, didn’t you? Seducing me?” he asked, kissing her cheek.
She laughed. “Yes, while the guys were putting the bed together and you were helping to unpack the rest of our furniture and household goods, I was frantically searching for our sheets and pillows, and when I finally found them, I made the bed. Just for this.”
He glanced down at the green comforter decorated with pink hearts and the pink sheets and smiled.
She shrugged. “We can get something else later. This will have to do for now.”
“Pink works for me as long as you’re the one in between the sheets.”
“Hmm, and you’re there with me.”
He started removing her sweater and pulled it over her head and kissed her cheek. “At the rate we were going, I never thought we’d get to this.”
She laughed. “Of course we would. I know, I know, we couldn’t agree on an apartment, but that didn’t mean you and I weren’t meant for each other.” She smiled at him, pulled his shirt out of his waistband, and ran her hands underneath and up his shirt and over his ripped abs. “I wouldn’t give you up for anything.”
“The same here with wanting you. Hell, if we’d had to live with Ryan and Carol forever…” He kissed her cheek, his hands rubbing over her shoulders.
“No. Way.”
He chuckled. “My feeling exactly.”

She found his nipples and gently tweaked them with her fingers. He moaned deep in his throat, then kissed her mouth, leisurely, lovingly. His large hands tenderly rubbed her shoulders, and he made her feel amazing. He was amazing. His mouth was incredible on hers as he brushed kisses against her lips, his green eyes mesmerizing.
She sighed as he unbuttoned her blouse and found she was braless. His masculine lips smiled against her mouth in a predatory way.
She shrugged. “If you weren’t going to ask me to mate with you, I was going to ask you…and fewer clothes work better.”
“All day at work—”
“I had a shirt and sweater on.” She smiled up at him.
“Vixen.” Then he lowered his head to kiss the swell of her breasts, one and then the other. He kissed a nipple with his hot mouth, then licked and moved across, pressing kisses against her skin, leaving a sizzling path in his wake before he began to lick the other nipple, suckling.
Heat enveloped her and her breath grew ragged. She breathed in the scent of him, her wolf forevermore, maleness personified, hot testosterone, enticing pheromones, the human and the wolf, desire filling her with each passing second. Wet with need, she pulled off his shirt. She began to work on his belt, unfastening it, unzipping his trousers. Reaching down as he was kissing her mouth, she ran her hand down, and what she found shocked her.
Her heavily lidded eyes shot wide open as soon as she touched his penis and short, curly hairs, and her mouth curved up. “You weren’t wearing boxer shorts today?”
“I was going to ask you to mate with me, and the fewer clothes, the better.”
She laughed. She loved him. “Great minds.” She hurried to pull his trousers down his lean hips and kissed the tip of his penis before his trousers fell to the floor and he kicked them off.
He hurried to pull off her trousers and he smiled, ran his hand over her lacy boy-shorts, and pulled them off.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her naked body against his. She loved the feel of his hard, muscled body against hers as he ran his hands down her back and cupped her buttocks and squeezed.
“You’re a wild one,” he whispered against her cheek. “Wild and mine.”
“Shy and retiring, in truth.” Of course she was teasing him. He did bring more of the wildness out in her, though.
“No way. You’re just the one for me.” Then he was kissing her again, and she let him in all the way, tongue to tongue, greeting him in a way that said there would be no holds barred this time.
“Hmm, so hot and wolfish.” She rubbed against his arousal and he groaned low.
She savored every bit of him: his touches, groans, scent, taste. He was just divine, and she was so glad they had a place of their own where they could be themselves, be a couple, enjoy the intimacy in total privacy, and become mated wolves.
He slipped his hands under her buttocks and lifted her so that she wrapped her legs around him, and he carried her to the bed. She already felt the white-hot ache for his touch. Then he was finding her wet, swollen nub with his finger, teasing the center of her pleasure. He pressed his advantage, stroking her, making her feel wondrous, lusty, and in love.
Scarcely breathing, she felt awash in rising pleasure, the need for fulfillment, the craving to have him inside her now filling her with urgency. Her heart and his were beating wildly, and she was heading for the stars and the moon, ready to release. And then she shattered in the most exquisite way, cried out, howled, and clung to the love of her life.
He was pressing the head of his shaft between her thick, slick folds and began to thrust after that, not waiting for an invitation, her howl enough to say she was all in on the union between wolves. “Love you so much, honey.”
She kissed him with drive and enthusiasm. “I love you right back,” she said, breathless. He took her breath away, filled her with joy, and meant everything to her.
She wrapped her legs around his waist, deepening his penetration, wanting him desperately to climax inside her this time. This was what it meant to be wolf mates, the consummated sex between wolves, the driving need to be as one, a mated pair forever.
She couldn’t be any happier as his body slammed into hers, thrusting, undulating, sexy, hot, and hers. Seeing the tension on his face, the straining of his neck muscles, the way his body tightened, his ragged breathing, and lust-filled, beautiful green eyes, she knew he was near completion. But so was she. Again.
He growled as he filled her with his wet heat, and then he howled like she had done, thrusting until he was finished, but she ground out, “Not yet.” And he smiled and slid his hand between them, coaxing another climax out of her, stroking, kneading, bringing her to the precipice and orgasm.
She cried out, feeling wondrously fulfilled, satiated, hearts beating as if they’d been racing through the woods as wolves, and that was just what she wanted to do next. As a newly mated wolf pair.
She pulled him to her, held him tight, her legs still wrapped around him, hers forevermore.
“Hmm, you aim to keep me,” he said, his voice rough and sexy, needy even.
“You bet,” she said. “I’m only letting you out of my grasp to run as a wolf tonight.”
“I was hoping you would say that. Running with you as a wolf means we’ll be ready for more bed play when we return home.”
“I knew you were the only one for me.” She shifted and he chuckled. He should know that about her by now. She could be totally unpredictable.
He shifted and she raced down the hall. He raced right after her, though they had to maneuver around a few packing boxes before they reached the door. They’d unpack more tomorrow, but for now, they were going to enjoy their newfound mated status.
Wolves in lust and love—the only way to be.
Epilogue
The holidays were upon them. Instead of visiting Phoenix’s family or Hanna’s, their families came from Loveland and Silver Town to see them for Thanksgiving, and so did the Green Valley pack leaders. Phoenix and Hanna were so grateful for all Ryan and Carol had done for them.
“You know we love having families join the pack in Green Valley,” Ryan said to Hanna’s parents and Hanna’s sister, Susan.
“We’re sure you could take over the post office here as soon as the postmaster retires, and Susan could be a teacher for our wolf children if you ever want to move out here and be part of our pack,” Carol said.
Hanna smiled, but Phoenix knew her family had no interest in uprooting themselves from Loveland, as much as she hoped they would. He thought if they could convince Susan to move here, the sisters’ parents would follow.
That was when Max Browning arrived late to dinner. It was Carol and Hanna’s idea to have the retired Navy SEAL come to dinner, in hopes he and Susan might hit it off. But Michael had the same idea with his Green Beret brother, Daniel, who was visiting him and Carmela, so naturally they brought him to Thanksgiving dinner too.
“Sorry I’m late. I got a flat tire on the way over here,” Max said, making a detour to the kitchen to wash up first.
“No problem at all,” Hanna said as Max took his seat at the table next to Susan and introductions were made.
Maybe something would spark between Max and Susan. Or Daniel and Susan. All that mattered to Phoenix for now was that he had found his mate in Hanna during one big motorcycle-gang brawl close to Halloween.
* * *
Hanna was thrilled all the families could be together. Michael’s twin brother was sitting on the other side of Susan, and Hanna hoped one of the two men, Daniel or Max, would interest her. She truly wanted her family to move to Green Valley before she and Phoenix had kids, but her parents wouldn’t move unless Susan did.
Hanna squeezed Phoenix’s hand and smiled at him. No matter what happened between her sister and the men, Hanna had her own loving mate. Dating a military guy had finally worked out, and she’d ended up with the job and a pack that she couldn’t have been happier to be with. She and both their families and, of course, her mate couldn’t have been more pleased or thankful for this holiday season.
