Suddenly she pushed at him. "Wait, darling," she insisted when he tried to kiss her again. "I have to talk to..."
"If you tell me you're going to talk to someone named Michael and Angela," he groaned, "I'll..."
"But I am. Didn't Silver Eagle and Rain tell you about them?" Tess shoved free and stood up as he reluctantly nodded his head and rose from the bench.
"Well, anyway, Rain mentioned them," he admitted, "but I really wasn't in the mood to hear about a couple of crazy spirits who've supposedly been following you around. I thought you'd gone for good!"
"Shoot, Stone, I told you I'd made my decision to stay here with you."
Her nonchalant tone fired his ire again, and he took a menacing step toward her, forcing her to back away from him. "Then why the hell did you go on your errand without telling me?"
"Uh-oh," she murmured. "Stone, please. I'll always discuss things with you from now on. Really, I will."
"Sure you will," he muttered, still glaring at her.
"Uh... Michael. Angela," she said in a squeaky voice. "Help."
"Tess..." His words froze in his throat when a soft poof sounded and a cloud appeared. On the cloud stood two small figures, one male and one definitely female. He groped behind him until he found the table and sat down with a thump.
"Hello, Stone," the female said. "I'm Angela, and this is Michael."
Stone nodded his head stupidly, unable to utter a sound. He tore his eyes away from the cloud and stared at Tess, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Michael and Angela are my guardian angels," Tess explained in a relieved voice. "It's their job to take care of me. Rain says they've been with me all along."
"All along," he repeated.
"Uh-huh. They kept me from getting hurt when my horse threw me when we went after the wild mares. And I guess they protected me from Rose's bullets."
"Well, that was Michael," the female who had told him her name was Angela explained. "It's really him who's your guardian angel, Tess. I'm just here as sort of an... adviser."
Tess started speaking again, and Stone felt dizzy as he jerked his gaze back to her.
"Well, I want to thank both of you for what you've done," Tess said. "You brought me here to find Stone and the kids, kept me from making a big mistake with... uh... that other guy."
Michael puffed out his chest, but Angela gave him a stern look. "Pride, Michael."
Michael sighed and sat down, motioning for Angela to join him. "You're giving me a little too much credit, Tess," he said shaking his head. "You made your own decision in New York, and I just changed the bullets in the rifles to blanks so neither you nor Rose would get killed. You did the rest yourself."
"Whatever," Tess said, negligently waving her hand. "We never finished our discussion up on the hill."
"I know what you want me to tell you, Tess," Michael said.
Tess said in an aside to Stone, "They can read my mind."
Michael chuckled, then said, "You want to know how your life will be with Stone. But as I said, even Angela and I don't know the future. I can tell you one thing, though."
"What?" Tess asked eagerly.
"You've heard the saying that marriages are made in Heaven, haven't you?"
Tess nodded, and Michael continued, "Mr. G made marriage a sacred sacrament. However, as humans, you both have free wills, so it's completely up to you both what sort of married life you'll have. But if you treat your love as a sacred gift, and honor and respect each other—why, think what a wonderful life you can have together!"
"Oh, Michael." Angela sighed. "That's so... profound."
"I thought so," Michael said with a tiny smirk of satisfaction.
"That's good enough for me," Tess said. "How about you, Stone?"
"Huh?" He snapped his mouth closed. "Uh... yeah, I guess so. Say, are you two going to be around all the time from now on? I mean... all the time?"
Angela giggled and shook her head. "We like to practice flying at night. Sometimes we even go in the daytime. Michael still has a problem from time to time with his wings."
"Don't I know it," Tess said, rubbing her rear.
"Tess," Michael said softly, "we've appeared for you this time, and even let Stone see us. But this will have to be the last time. We aren't really supposed to show ourselves, and I've been afraid of getting reprimanded for the past few minutes."
"From Mr. G?" Tess asked.
"Who's Mr. G?" Stone interrupted. Tess rolled her eyes upward, and Stone drew in a gasp of breath, "G... God?" he asked, awestricken.
Tess nodded, then looked back at Michael. "You're leaving then? But please, tell me one more thing before you go. You both seem so perfect together, but I've never heard of a pair of guardian angels. You aren't going to have to separate, are you? You did say that you were only an adviser to Michael, Angela."
"We're going to talk to Mr. G about that," Michael replied. "I'm going to try to convince him that I need Angie around for at least another millennium to help me over my clumsy flying. It will probably take at least that long, since I wasn't able to master it in the past millennium."
"I've just met you, but I'll miss you," Tess said tenderly. "Could we... could we at least hug before you go?"
The two angels looked at each other, then nodded. Tess held out her arms, and Michael and Angela hopped to the floor, growing before Stone's eyes until they were almost the same height as Tess. The three of them spent a half-minute hugging, and Tess kissed each of their cheeks.
Somehow Stone managed to get to his feet and shake Michael's hand. He lifted up Angela and pulled her close for a second before he landed a kiss beside her ear.
"Will Rain and Silver Eagle still be able to see you both?" he asked as he carefully lowered Angela to the floor.
"You'll have to ask them," Michael said with a wink.
A soft wind sighed through the kitchen, and Stone blinked. When he opened his eyes the kitchen was empty except for him and Tess.
He grabbed her and whirled her around. After he pulled her close and kissed her soundly, he shoved her away and whacked her on the rear.
"Go put on that pretty dress you wore to the social," he ordered. "And tell Silver Eagle and the kids to come on."
"Is that an order?" Tess asked with a slight frown, rubbing her behind.
"Sorry," Stone said with an unconcerned grin. "Please go put on your pretty dress. I'll tell the others to get ready."
"What for? I thought you'd rather be alone with me this evening."
"I would, but we're going into Clover Valley and get married again first. We'll wake up the minister if we have to. I don't want any doubt in Heaven's mind that we're well and truly married."
"I love you, Stone," she whispered.
"I love you, too, darlin'. Now and for all time."

ENCHANTED LOVE, BOOK TWO
"Here she comes, Pandora."
The cat opened its eyes, but spoiled the pretense of alertness by yawning. Fatima scowled at her companion, then dropped the tent flap back into place. Hurriedly, she swung her black, silver-tipped wand, and a full-length mirror appeared amid a cloud of gold-dust sparkles. Waving the sparkles away so they didn't cloud the mirror surface, Fatima examined herself.
Her red hair was carefully coiffed, thick and luxuriant, not a tress out of place. The black and white ostrich feather curled above her left ear, then swept around and cupped the back of her head. The little black dot beside her mouth perfectly complemented her pretty features.
The red and gold full-skirted gown might be a trifle low-cut, baring her shoulders and a goodly portion of her breasts. But Fatima had always been of the school that if you've got it, flaunt it.
Fatima waved her wand and made her tent visible to Ellie. As though she herself hovered overhead, she knew what Ellie saw—a bright red and white striped tent appearing out of nowhere amid a cloud of sparkling magic dust. Sure enough, Ellie halted as though she'd run into a brick wall, a stunned look on her face. She rubbed her fists in her eyes and dropped them, peering at the tent in disbelief—another typical reaction.
Fatima stepped out of the tent. "Hello, Ellie, my dear," she said. "I'm your fairy godmother. I'm here to grant your wishes."
Good grief on a greased slide, Ellie was going bonkers! She always feared there might be something strange about her. Hadn't her family sent her off to be adopted rather than keep her? Now visions threatened her sanity.
She turned to run. But the woman of the evening who had stepped out of the tent appeared in front of her, blocking her path. How had she moved so fast? The woman carried a black, polished stick with a silver tip on it in one hand and a determined look on her face.
"Now, Ellie, dear," she said.
"How do you know my name? I don't know you! I've never seen you before in my life." Ellie tried to back away, but the woman pointed that stick at her feet, and they wouldn't move. "Let me go!"
She didn't know how the woman had frozen her feet—nor even how she knew that's what she had done. Oh, diddly! She'd be danged if she let herself believe for one second that the woman might possibly be carrying a magic wand.
"Let me go, gosh darn it," she repeated as the woman stepped closer. "I'll—I'll scream!"
"Ellie, please," the woman soothed. "I'm not going to hurt you. Like I said, I'm your fairy godmother."
"There's no such things as fairies! I demand you let me go!"
