I wrap my arms around Chloe, holding her tight while my mother has her excitement-induced meltdown. I knew she’d be happy. Hell, I was over the moon to be having a little girl.

  “Little girls are so special,” Pops says to me. “You’re in for a world of hurt and happiness.”

  “Pops, did I hurt you?” Gracie asks him.

  “You grew up, sweetheart,” he tells her plainly.

  Gracie walks up to my father, throwing her arms around him on the opposite side as my mother. “I’ll always be your little girl.”

  “That’ll be us someday,” Chloe says, clinging to me. “Our own little family.”

  I lean over, kissing the top of her head. “Just the three of us.”

  She peers up, placing her hand on my chest over my heart, giving me the sweetest smile. “Maybe four.”

  I could never break her heart or disappoint her. Family is important to me, but it’s always been a dream for Chloe. “However many you want, baby.”

  She lifts a hopeful eyebrow. “Ten?”

  I laugh, shaking my head. “Now you’re getting extreme.”

  “You said however many I want.”

  “Let’s start with one, and we’ll see what happens from there.”

  “Deal,” she breathes into my shirt as she holds me tight.

  “Now, about the baby shower,” Ma says. Thankfully, she didn’t hear our conversation or else she’d be giving her input into how many kids she’d want us to have.

  “I love you,” Chloe whispers to me as my mother goes on and on about the party.

  “I love you too,” I say back, knowing my life will never be the same and hopeful for everything that’s still to come.
