COULD YOU PRACTICE “10X THINKING”?
The value of thinking big is that it encourages you to go beyond your conditioning—to go beyond your everyday expectations for yourself and beyond what you think is possible. Here is your chance to go even further, using the same ambitious standard that Google tried to reach. According to their vice president of finance, the company encourages big thinking about its new products: For any new product in development, the goal is for the product’s benefits to be “10X” or 10 times higher than the product or service it’s designed to replace. That’s a high standard—and we can apply it to our own lives! How about trying it yourself?
Consider this a thought exercise. It is a way to expand your thinking about what you want. It can expand your view of what might be possible. There is no real risk here.
But be ready: For some people, 10X Thinking is an exhilarating process. For others, stretching in this way may produce some anxiety. You might feel tense, or foolish, or you may want to close the workbook and do something else. Whatever your response, it is OK. Just accept it for what it is: the natural response for you.

YOUR WORK, CAREER, OR BUSINESS
© Sensvector/Shutterstock, Inc.
Whatever work you’re doing now, do you love it? Is it what you truly want to do? What would your life look like if you were able to make your life’s work doing what you truly love?
Most of us need to work in order to sustain our lives at the level we want. We’re brought up expecting to work—either inside or outside the home—for most of our adult lives. Luckily, we all have a choice in the type of work we do—and in the level of satisfaction it brings us.
Think about your own career or business possibilities. You might want to find more joy and ease in your current work. Perhaps you want to find a new job in your field, or switch careers, or be self-employed, or do creative work, or raise your children full-time, or train horses, or pursue nonprofit or charitable work. Whatever it is, if you want to work at what you truly love to do, the process starts with envisioning and writing down what you truly want.
Warm up by thinking, if you could do anything you want, anything at all . . .
What would a career based on your life purpose look like?
What would you most love to do as your work, profession, or business?
What would be some characteristics of your ideal work environment?
Do you want to have a support team?
Do you want to be part of a collaborative team?
Do you want to work from home, or in a particular city?

YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

While work takes up a third of the day for many of us, relationships add richness to our lives. Relationships include those connections you have with your spouse or partner, family, extended family, close friends, colleagues at work, and members of the community. How satisfying and rewarding do you want these relationships to be? What new relationships do you want to bring into your life? What relationships do you need to modify or eliminate from your life? What do you want from your relationships?
Get started by thinking about an ideal relationship with . . .
Your spouse or partner
Your children
Your siblings and extended family
Your new friends
Your long-time friends
Your neighbors
Your colleagues at work
Members of your community

YOUR HEALTH AND FITNESS

If you were in charge of a factory or a school, you would likely have a manager in charge of the “physical plant.” That includes the maintenance of the structures, the heating and ventilation, and more. Well, your body is your “physical plant.” How well do you want it to operate and for how long?
Start by thinking about . . .
Your ideal weight
Your desired level of fitness or strength
Your level of flexibility (can you touch your toes?)
Your level of energy
The quality and length of your sleep
The quality of the food you eat
Remaining disease-free
The age you would like to live to
