Why am I feeling like this?

It’s like that girl in high school again. Afraid and worried about the unexpected. It’s Kyle, Ken. Why are you afraid of this?

Because I don’t know what any of this means.

He’s a friend and I really miss his company. But the way Roman looked at me, he looked at me as though there was more to it and it just made me feel so small. As though I couldn’t be trusted with anyone that isn’t him. It still stings and burns through my patience.

I asked him not to hurt me.

And he couldn’t keep that one promise.

I shake my head, forcing the angry tears away and the lump in my throat.

“I cannot wait for Eliza to show up, I literally tried to dye my hair like hers and ended up with period blood streaks in my hair,” a confident girl with blonde and red hair says in front of me. She’s with a group of her friends who chuckle loudly against the music.

“It works! Just don’t tell Eliza if you ever end meeting her!” Her friend snorts.

“I’m just here for Kyle,” another girl swoons. “He’s so dreamy.”

The stage lights dim and the crowd cheers anxiously in anticipation, howling and clapping for their favourite band to arrive. The spotlights roam the crowd, flashing a myriad of eager faces into my consciousness.

A female host runs to the stage. “What a crowd, we have here tonight! Can I get some noise please!”

The crowd shouts in excitement and she puts her hand on her hip. “We can do better than that! Come on, make some noise if you’re here to see The Vipers!”

The crowd goes wild, making even more noise than before and it rips through my hearing. The squeals of the girls at the front pierce through.

“That’s more like it!” She nods in appreciation. “Alright! Empire Room, are you reaaaady for the one and the only - Vipers!” She screams enthusiastically.

The lights dim to a faded, murky purple colour before flashing brightly with silver and lilac strobes, dancing all around the room and across the crowd. The crowd loses their mind, jumping and dancing as the drums start, thudding rhythmically. The riff of the electric guitar tells me that he’s here.

  Kyle’s on stage.

His shadowed form takes the stage, his head bowed to reveal only his ruffled, chocolate locks. “This one’s dedicated to a special girl. The only girl who have my heart,” he looks up into the crowd, his green eyes sparkling with an unrecognisable emotion.

  “This one’s for you, Kennedy."
