Cam narrowed her eyes at him placing a hand on one of her hips. “Alex, you might want to remember that I know more ways to make you suffer than a cookbook has recipes so you better watch it.”
“Don’t let that dummy bother you kiddo, he’s between bimbo’s right now and it’s starting to affect the little he has left of a brain.” Kat said pushing him out of the way so that she could give Cam a hug.
Alex stopped laughing and gave Kat a mean look. “Kat, if it wasn’t for the fact that you’re a woman and you’re pregnant and you can kick my ass and if you couldn’t your husband could, I’d… Oh forget it.” He said stalking off.
Kenji laughed as he too hugged Cam. “The two of you just love giving Alex a hard time don’t you?”
Both Cam and Kat laughed.
“That boy brings it on himself when he opens his mouth and lets the stupid out.” Kat said.
“She’s right you know if he wasn’t always flipping off at the mouth we wouldn’t give him such a hard time.” Cam replied.
“You both know that’s just how Alex is. So Cam where is Blake?” Kenji asked, slipping an arm around Kat.
“He went to his study to make a few phone calls he’ll be out in a bit. But I’m hungry so we can wait for him in the dining room where the food is.” Cam said heading in that direction leaving Kat and Kenji to follow.
When Blake finally made it to the dining room everyone had a plate or eating utensil in one hand and a file folder in the other. He entered the dining room stopping next to Cam’s chair he leaned over and she tilted her head back to look up at him he kissed her softly on the lips.
When they both looked up they noticed all eyes were on them. Blake cleared his throat loudly before saying. “Just practicing for when my family gets here.”
Alex snorted. “Yeah, sure you are.”
Blake cast Alex an annoying gaze. “You need to shut up, now.” He said as he took a seat in the chair next to Cam. After he was seated she handed him a case file a loaded plate of food.
“Thanks.” He said flashing her one of his sexy smiles.
She smiled back before quickly remembering that they had an audience. “You’re welcome just don’t get use this kind of service.”
Blake turned his attention to his friends and team members seated around the table. “So why doesn’t someone start while I down a couple of bite of my food.”
Kenji being the team leader stood and began explaining the information in the file about what they’d been able to find out.
“As you’re all aware of our focus has been on trying to identify and locate the person who was actually behind everything that happened a few month ago. The ambush at me and Kat’s wedding as well as the ambush at our cabin.”
“Which is costing us a great deal to repair, and I planned to take it out of somebody’s behind when we find them.” Kat chimed in interrupting Kenji.
He glanced at her. “Are you done my little kunoichi?”
Kat smiled at her husband for calling her his little kunoichi, which was Japanese for female ninja she never got tired of hearing him call her that.
“Oh sorry sweetie I didn’t mean to interrupt. Go ahead I won’t say anything else.” Kat replied still smiling.
Kenji returned her smile with one of his own.
“As I was saying we believe this person is also responsible for Blake’s shooting, even though he or she wasn’t the one that pulled the trigger. So finding this individual is a top priority for our team. Thai you’re up.” Kenji said as he took his seat next to Kat before placing a gentle kiss on her lips.
Thai stayed seated as he presented his part of the investigating.
“If you’ll notice most of the images we were able to find are grainy at best and the ones that aren’t we are certain a disguise was worn so for that reason we aren’t sure if we’re dealing with a man or a woman. Just know that whomever we’re dealing with is very clever, but not clever enough because we were also able to track some of his or her movement thanks to Prescott I’ll let him take it from here.”
“It wasn’t easy this person is like a ghost, whenever I get close to identifying whoever this is the trail goes cold. The last known locate is somewhere in London, but don’t worry I’m working on a plan to flush them out. That’s where Alex comes in.”
“Using the information that Prescott gave me we devised a plan we hope will catch the interest of the right unscrupulous people.”
“Hey you guys so what ever happened to the files that Kat copied for the crooked agents?” Cam asked.
“Don’t worry all the information that I copied about Five Nations International stayed with me until I handed it to Kenji, it was never in the hands of those crooked agents or anyone else for that matter. Ya’ll do realize that anyone who may have known about members of this team is dead. The person we’re looking for only knows about me, Kenji and my family.” Kat replied.
“Kat’s right everyone that stepped foot on that property that day is dead. So there is no one that could identify any of us. That and the fact that Kenji was able to keep Blake’s shooting and the events of that night out of the news should be beneficial.” Alex added.
“That’s probably true but nevertheless we should proceed with caution. We don’t want anyone else getting hurt.” Kenji said in an even but commanding tone.
“Our assumption is that they’re planning to either partner with or take over major companies here is the U.S. and aboard in hopes that doing so will cover their criminal activities.” Thai informed the team.
“Right by using legitimate, well established companies to launder their dirty money they could go undetected for quite some time. The plan is to get them interested a company owned by one of us and since they failed to get control of Fu-Shima Corp we can’t use that company.” Alex stated.
“Well that leaves four others to choose from Thai’s nightclubs, Prescott’s casinos, Alex’s production company or Blake’s investment firms. So which one do you think is the most enticing to organized crime boss?” Cam asked no one in particular.
“As you all know Kat and Kenji’s company Fu-Shima Corp was the first choice because it’s one of the largest most profitable technological companies in the world with offices in several countries and the ability to ship anywhere on this planet.” Thai said taking deep breath before continuing. “With that said each one of the remaining four companies has something different to offer.”
“Right like the fact that Prescott’s casinos can launder money quickly without drawing much attention the same can be said for Thai’s nightclubs. Whereas Alex’s production company can offer the necessary shipping opportunity that will more than likely meet their illegal needs.” Kenji told the team.
“What about Blake’s company what would they benefit in doing business with him?” Cam asked curiously.
Blake glanced around the table at the other team members before returning his gaze to Cam.
“Doing business with my company means that their dirty money can be moved around quickly and as often as needed. Especially since most of it is done by wire transfer it can be moved from place to place electronically and it’s easier to hide then most people think.” Blake said answering Cam’s question honestly and at the same time hoping not to worry her.
Cam narrowed her gaze at him. “I know there is more to it than that so what aren’t you telling me?” She demanded.
“We won’t let anything happen to Blake that’s a promise.” Kenji said.
“Yeah well we both know that’s not a promise none of you can keep.” Cam said.
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves we don’t even know if they’ll go for any none of our companies.” Prescott said.
“That’s not the only problem Blake isn’t your family coming for a visit?” Alex asked.
Blake ran his large hand through his blond hair. “Yeah they’ll be here day after tomorrow.”
Cam turned her annoyed gaze to Blake. “You have got to be kidding me. Day after tomorrow, this just keeps getting better and better. We’re trying to track down a dangerous
criminal and now I have to deal with your family. This is just peachy.”
“Hey you did agree to do this for me remember? So don’t back out on me now.” Blake said.
“I didn’t say I was backing out but you just remember, I have a loaded gun upstairs under my pillow, two in the closet and three in the bathroom and I will not hesitate to use any one of them.” Cam said through clenched teeth as she got up from her chair and left the room.
“Yeah you might want to hide her guns from her before your family gets here.” Thai said.
“Yeah you know she’s crazy.” Alex remarked.
“Hey man that’s my sister you’re talking about.”
“And my wife.” Blake added.
“Oh ya’ll gonna try to act like I’m the only one that knows she crazy.” Alex said as he looked around the dining room.
“No we all know she’s crazy it’s just none of us are stupid enough to say it out loud where she might hear us.” Prescott said.
“Honey I’m going to see if Cam’s alright.” Kat said to Kenji kissing him softly before going after Cam.
Kat found Cam on the patio staring out over the backyard. She seemed to be deep in thought.
“Okay so what’s bothering you?” Kat asked as she sat down in the chair next to her.
“You are at the moment.” Cam said.
“Oh you got jokes well news flash comedy queen, I’ll keep bothering you until you answer my question. So what’s up?” Kat replied folding her arms over her growing belly.
“Girl I don’t know. A part of me is happy that I agreed to be Blake’s pretend wife and another part of me wants to scream. I don’t know if I can do this.”
“What is it that you’re unsure about?”
“Meeting his family and him putting his life on the line again, I know it’s the nature of our job but it worries me.” Cam confessed as she turned her worried gaze to her best friend.
“First of all meeting his family will be a breeze who wouldn’t love you. Second he has you and this entire team to back him up so stop worrying. Not to mention the fact that he may not even be the one who deals with these criminals.”
“I guess you’re right.”
“You guess? Girl you know I’m right. Now one problem at a time, what else is bothering you because I know there’s something you haven’t told me.” Kat said as she stared at her friend.
“All this pretending to be husband and wife stuff could get complicated. I’m getting use to being with him so how am I ever going to be about to just let him go when it’s time to go our separate ways?” Cam inquired as tears shimmered in her eyes but she blinked them away before even one could fall.
“Look just live for today and let tomorrow take care of itself. Who knows you may not go your separate ways.” Kat said smiling like she knew a secret that Cam didn’t.
“Whatever we both know that this is going to end it’s just a matter of how.”
“We’ll see.” Kat said as they both headed back inside.
CHAPTER EIGHT
The next day was a busy one for them all as they tried to get everything in place for the teams investigation and for the visit from Blake’s family. Cam and Kat were hanging pictures of Blake and Cam that the photography had sent over by messenger. They were attempting to make it look as if Cam had been living in Blake’s house for quite some time now.
Kat paused taking a step back to look at the wedding photo they’d placed above the marble fireplace.
“Perfect, you two really do make a beautiful couple.”
Cam adjusted the picture one last time and stepped back also standing next to Kat she glance up at the large photo of her and Blake as it glared back at her.
“Well don’t get use to it you know it’s just temporary. Who in the hell ordered this big ass picture? Just look at it, it’s huge.” Cam commented as she continued to look at the photo. They did make a nice couple she thought to herself not daring say it out loud for Kat to hear, she’d never let her live it down.
“You have your husband to thank for that one.” Kat said as she took a seat on the couch. “When is the furniture Blake made you order getting here?”
Cam took a seat next to Kat. “It should be arriving any time now.” Just then the doorbell rang. “I’ll get it that’s probably them now.” Cam said as she went to answer the front door. When she opened the door it wasn’t the furniture delivery it was an eccentrically dressed man who was accompanied by racks and racks of woman’s clothes. He was dressed in crisp winter white linen suit with an ascot, expensive leather dress shoes and carrying a walking stick.
The man had a dark brown complexion and dark brown eyes to match. His hair was taper on all sides but longer on top and styled to one side. He also wore a bright smile that made his eyes sparkle with mischief.
“Hello darling you must be Camille Coleman.” The man said air kissing her near both cheeks as he breezed by as two skinny young women hurried close behind.
“I’m Carlton Timmons I received a call from Kat Fujimoto that my services were needed.” He glanced up and down the length of Cam. “By the looks of it you desperately need my assistance.” The man said sounding a bit too snotty for Cam’s taste.
She looked down at her jeans and tank top not seeing the problem. This is what she usually wore when she was relaxing.
Kat come into the foyer before Cam could respond to Carl’s comment, which wasn’t going to be a pleasant one that’s for sure.
“Carl you made it thanks for coming.” Kat greeted him in the same fashion in which he’d greeted Cam, air kisses near both cheeks. “I see you’ve meet Cam.”
Cam pasted on a smile. “Kat why is he here?” She asked eyeing them both suspiciously.
Kat smiled. “Carl would you excuse us for a minute why don’t you go get set-up in the guestroom it’s down the hall second door on the right.”
After he and his assistants left them alone in the foyer Kat continued. “Since you didn’t bring much with you from Virginia and because you’re about to meet your new in-laws I thought as a wedding gift it would be nice to get you a new wardrobe.”
Cam was stunned she knew that Kat had expensive taste and she thought nothing of spending an outrageous amount of money on clothes and shoes. Cam didn’t mind splurging on herself every now and then but not a whole wardrobe at once.
“Kat that is very sweet of you but I can’t let you spend that kind of money on me.”
Kat laughed. “Ha! Did you say you can’t let me, girl I’d like to see you try and stop me. Besides I need a few new outfits myself. If you hadn’t noticed this baby is making its presents known.”
“Fine but don’t get carried away, I know how you like to spend money.” Cam said.
“Yeah, yeah whatever let’s go.”
As they passed the office where the guys were working they stop for just a minute. “Hey you guys are going to have to keep an eye out for the furniture truck.” Cam told them.
“Why? What are you two going to be doing?” Alex demanded.
Both Kat and Cam exchanged glances before returning their gazes to Alex. Not giving the two women a chance to harm Alex because that’s exactly what was coming next, Blake replied.
“I’ll answer the door when they get here you two go right ahead with whatever it is ya’ll need to do.”
“Yeah don’t worry we can handle the furniture delivery.” Kenji added.
“Thanks.” They said in unison as they cast one last mean look at Alex before continuing down the hall.
When the guys were sure they were out of ear shot everyone turned glaring eyes on Alex.
“Man do you have a death wish are something?” Blake asked.
“Yeah do you need a vacation that bad that you’d be willing to take a stay in the hospital? Which I’m sure you wouldn’t have enjoyed anyway because of the coma you’d be in.” Prescott said.
“You really have no idea how close you were to get hurt do you?” Kenji asked laughing softly as he shook his head.
Alex looked at each of the men in confusion. “All I did was asked them what they would be doing.”
“Actually you didn’t ask you demanded and that is never a good idea when dealing with those two.” Thai commented. “Hell that’s not a good idea when dealing with any woman but
especially those two.”
Alex thought for a minute before saying anything. “I guess I wasn’t thinking when I opened my mouth. To make it up to them I’ll order lunch.” He said going to the desk to write down what everyone wanted. Kenji ordered for Kat and Blake ordered for Cam since neither was available.
Cam could have sworn that while she was occupied with Kat and Carlton Timmons the
“Stylist”, she’d heard the doorbell at least three of four times. She knew that one of those times had to have been the furniture delivery. The others she wasn’t sure of. She wanted to go check it out but Kat refuse to let her leave this room until she was satisfied with her choices. Cam had tried on more outfits and shoes than she had in her entire life.
Unlike most woman Cam hated shopping for clothes, whenever she needed new clothes she just went to the store grabbed her size off the rack, paid the clerk and headed home.
No stylist needed.
Carlton Timmons was a serious stylist he not only brought more outfits than you’d find in a boutique. He’d even brought bras and panties claiming that undergarments were the foundation of a great outfit. Then there was the wrong and right type of panties that should or shouldn’t be worn with certain outfits.
Then there was the sleepwear he’d brought for her to try, which was so flimsy she might as will be butt naked. Not to mention the selection of shoes and handbags, some of which cost more than a couple months’ rent on her apartment. And then he had to accessorize every single outfit with earrings.
This guy was tiring her out, but at least Kat was having fun. She’d picked out several tunics and legging sets, some cute dresses four or five pairs of sensible shoes and a few larger bras to accommodate her growing breasts.
