“Jesus...” I breathe out. “Fuck, Luka.” I reach up and wrap my hand around the back of his neck and bring my forehead to his, fighting through the lump that’s formed in my throat. I pull back and drop my hand from him and he does the same. “I don’t know how to fix this. I don’t know if I can fix this. Norwick has a lot of people in his back pocket, and at this point, I feel he’s going to take this land just to spite me.”
“Then we fight back. We have a whole pack. We have surrounding packs and a town here. There are people who will help us.”
“Not me. They’re all pissed at me.”
Luka shakes his head. “It doesn’t matter. They’ll do it for themselves and definitely for Juniper.”
I curse at the mention of her name, knowing she doesn’t know anything about this yet, and when she finds out, she isn’t going to be happy. Things were finally heading in a good direction between us, and I’m worried I just fucked it all up again. I really don’t want that to happen. Honestly, I have no idea how I convinced myself to leave the first time because thinking about leaving now has me nauseous and we haven’t been through anything even close to what we had the first time. I have no idea how that makes any damn sense, but it’s the truth.
“She’s going to be pissed.”
Luka nods his head. “Probably.”
“Damnit.” I turn towards Skye and Jordy. They’re a good distance away, but even from here, I can see he’s holding her, and I’m not sure if he’s told her what’s going on or if they’re just trying to pass the time. “I should tell her.”
“Let me help,” Luka says quickly.
“Help? How?”
He shrugs. “I don’t know, it just felt like the right thing to say.”
I huff out a laugh, shaking my head as I start towards Jordy and Skye, wondering if I really fucked things up again before anything even got started.
Chapter Forty
Jensen
The four of us squishing inside of my room is a bad idea, so we make our way to the lounge area of the inn, which is just down the hall from the back door. It’s tucked away in the back, and we shouldn’t be disturbed by anyone.
Jordy spoke with Redd to let him know we were heading that way. It’s a common area for all guests, but we wanted to be courteous. Redd let Jordy know it wouldn’t be any issue since there isn’t anyone else staying in the inn, which solidified my guess of Redd putting me in that room all the way at the top as a punishment. One I definitely deserved.
Jordy and Skye are sitting on the sofa across from the fireplace while Luka is sitting in a the lumpy armchair beside me. Emotional support, or whatever it was he whispered to me as he sat down.
My mind hasn’t stopped trying to find the best way to tell Skye what’s going on without upsetting her and making this worse. Nothing seems good enough, and I’m considering dropping to my knees in apology.
I take a deep breath, preparing to let the words flow when Skye gets to her feet. I raise a brow in question, and she speaks, completely throwing me for a loop.
“I know, Jensen.” She slowly glances at Jordy before looking back at me. “I know who those guys are and what they were doing here.”
“You... do?” I ask, looking at Luka who shrugs and then back to Skye. I guess Jordy told her while they were waiting outside. Which is fine, but why isn’t she angry? Isn’t she worried about everything her father has built being taken by a bunch of shitty humans?
She nods and takes a step closer to me.
“I do, and—”
“You’re not mad?”
She shakes her head. “No, of course not. In fact, I—uh...” She looks back at Jordy and he nods once, giving her the approval for something.
“Go ahead,” he says supportively.
I raise a brow when she looks back at me. “I’ve been thinking for a while now... uh, before you even came here, actually, that maybe...” She tugs at the hem of her shirt, and I grab her hands and hold them in mine.
“What, Skye? You can tell me.”
“I don’t want to be alpha.”
My eyebrows shoot into my hairline. “What?” I heard what she said, loud and clear, but the word came out before I could stop it.
“Ever since my father died, I’ve been thinking about it. I don’t know what it was exactly, but over the years my interest in being alpha was never about being alpha, and more about having something in common with my dad. The pack isn’t what it used to be. Hell, half of them don’t even support me, and though I don’t agree with their reasoning, I have given them other reasons not to believe in me, and that’s okay. I think it’s because deep down, I knew it wasn’t what I wanted. Not really.”
“Then what is it you want?” I ask, hoping like hell she says what I want her to.
“You. Luka and Jordy. All of us to be together. Jensen, when all of us were together, that was the only time in my life when I felt truly happy. I was free and didn’t have a care in the world, and even though I know life can’t be like that all the time because we’re adults and have responsibilities, I’m the happiest when it’s all of us. Together.”
“Jesus, Skye, you’re serious?” I breathe out.
“As a heart attack,” she says with a giddy smile.
“Wow...” I let her hands fall from mine and risk a glance at Luka who looks in deep thought. Jordy has a little smirk of pride on his face which tells me he knew about this already. “There’s so many things I want to say...”
“Then say them,” Skye urges. “Please, just tell me. Whatever it is, I want to know. If this is crazy, tell me. If you agree, tell me faster.”
I crack a smile and can’t help but wrap my arms around her and kiss her. She lets out a small squeak, but soon settles against me, her arms wrapping around my neck. I keep it chaste, knowing we’re in a public area and also, this isn’t really the time.
“Fuck, Skye, of course I agree, but...”
Her smile falls. “But what?”
“What’ll happen to the pack? And everyone in it? My brother...”
“He can come with us.”
“Come with us? Where?”
“Anywhere?” she says slowly. “One of the many places we talked about when we were younger? I mean, there’s so many to choose from, right? So many beaches we can explore. We could go to all of them and not settle down at all.”
“As much as I love that idea, Jase has a baby on the way. He can’t travel.”
“We can figure something out,” she pleads. She moves impossibly closer, placing her hands against my chest. “I don’t care where we go or what we do, I just want us to be together. All of us. Whatever that means, and whatever that looks like, I don’t care. I just want it.”
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Yeah, I mean, this is a simple solution. I have the money, so we have the means. As long as everyone here is safe and has a place to go, then let’s get the hell out of here.”
“You’re serious?” she asks as she holds her breath.
I grin. “As a heart attack.”
Chapter Forty-One
Jensen
One year later...
The waves crash on the shore of the white sandy beach of Clearwater, Florida. Our own private beach, I should mention. Well, mostly. We share it with my brother, Mara, and their adorable baby boy, Brock.
I may not have half-naked girls bringing me drinks like I wanted for years, but I have my three mates and we’re happy. Not to mention getting naked on the beach together is something we do often. Just usually once it’s dark and after giving Jase and Mara a warning not to come outside so they don’t see something they don’t want to.
We have a decent amount of land, with a big house, and a boathouse turned into fully functioning living quarters for my brother, his mate, and their child. They say they love it and they’re happy, so that’s all that matters to us.
We also have a small area for that weird goat Skye couldn’t bear to get rid of, along with her chickens. They look weird as hell hanging out on the beach, but they seem happy, and they make Skye smile, so that’s all that matters to me.
It’s hot as hell today, but that’s normal mid-July. There’s a small breeze coming off the water, but it does nothing to cool us down, and that’s totally fine. It’s a nice change from the rainy weather of Seattle I’d been living in for six years, along with the cold air up in Maine I was used to before that.
I’d waited so long to travel to a place like this, and I’m glad I did because experiencing it with my mates has made it so much more rewarding. I like to tell myself those six years weren’t just me being stupid, but instead, me preparing for this. I did what I needed to do to make a good life for all of us because without me leaving, this wouldn’t be possible. At the same time, if I hadn’t left, we’d have been together anyway, and I firmly agree that money doesn’t bring you happiness, but the shit I’ve bought with it sure does.
We’ve been settled down here without any worries for six months. Everything in the beginning was hectic. Making sure everyone in the pack was taken care of, dealing with Skye officially stepping down as alpha, and then what caused most of my stress, was selling my investment firm. Though, thankfully over those six years, I did a lot of networking and even made friends—one of which thought taking on my firm would benefit him. Apparently, Marco had planned on making me a proposition to merge, so when I told him I was selling, he was both disappointed and thrilled. He didn’t hesitate to buy, and knowing it’s in good hands makes me feel better about my choice.
“Hey, Jensen!” I look over my shoulder towards the house to find Luka holding up a beer. I raise my hand and nod, and he moves down the stairs and steps into the sand, heading towards me with a beer in each hand. He gives me one as he reaches me, then takes the seat beside me as he cracks his open. I do the same and we sit in silence, listening to the waves, the birds, and the people talking off in the distance. This area is beautiful, but it’s touristy as fuck. Skye loves it though, and really, that’s all that matters to me.
We’re living our best lives here on this beach, and though we don’t have plans to travel anywhere else any time soon, we do have a list. Australia, Greenland, China, Brazil, and more. The funny thing is, I truly don’t care where we go or what we do, as long as we’re together.
The rain comes out of nowhere. The seven of us are enjoying lunch when the skies open up and buckets fall down on us. We scramble to gather the food, drinks, and plates from the table, but quickly give up and run to our respective houses. Brock was the only one who seemed to enjoy the rain, but of course Jase took him inside.
“Wow,” Skye says, staring out the window. “That was amazing.” She glances at me over her shoulder, her face still wet from the rain.
“Amazing?” Luka asks, pulling his shirt off and dropping it to the kitchen floor with a plop. “I beg to differ.”
“Oh, come on. It’s just a little rain,” I tease, pulling off my own shirt and tossing it by Luka’s.
Jordy walks into the room from down the hall in a dry pair of briefs and nothing else, holding the laundry basket already full of his wet clothes. He crouches down by our discarded shirts and puts them inside as Luka and I take off our shorts and toss them in as well. The three of us eye Skye at the same time, and Jordy can’t seem to put the basket down fast enough. We rush towards her, and I go for her shirt as Luka goes for her shorts. She’s laughing and trying to kick us off, but it’s no use. She’s got no chance against the three of us.
“Pretty sure her bra is wet,” I say, raising a brow. Luka nods, throwing her wet shorts over his shoulder.
“Yep, sure is.”
“It is not!” Skye shouts playfully, crossing her arms over her breasts and taking a step back. “It’s dry!” She smiles, biting her bottom lip, and I can tell she’s preparing to run by the way her knees are slightly bent.
“Jordy?” I ask, taking in the way Skye looks in just her white lace panties and matching bra.
“Hmm...” he says huskily, keeping his eyes on her.
“They’re dry!” Skye shouts through a giggle.
“I don’t know. I think I need to feel them,” Jordy says. “You know, just in case. You can totally trust me. I just want to test the fabric.”
“Jordy!” she shrieks and runs for the stairs, Luka’s mate mark standing out against the contrast of her tanned skin on her ass. She doesn’t get far, because Luka has his arm around her waist before she can get to the second step. He pulls her against his chest and his mouth is on her neck, kissing her damp skin. Her laughter turns to moans and I move in, running my fingers across her stomach as I drop to my knees in front of her, hooking my fingers into the waistband of her panties the moment they touch the material.
“Wet… exactly as I thought,” I remark.
Jordy moves in close behind me and a glance up tells me he’s keeping her mouth occupied with a kiss while Luka pinches her nipple that’s now free of the bra, his mouth still on her neck, right by the mate mark I re-did. I lift her leg over my shoulder and run my tongue up the inside of her thigh, feeling the puckered skin of Jordy’s mate mark.
I drag my nose along her slit, then dive in.
She moans loudly and jerks her hips but I hold her firmly in place as I go to town, licking and sucking on her clit. The leg that’s holding her up starts to shake and I smile as I add a finger inside of her, knowing it’ll be only moments before she comes. When we attack her like this, doing what we want with her all at the same time, she’s like a pile of goo and can’t control how quickly she orgasms. It’s how we got her to orgasm three times in one hour just the other day. I still think we could have done more, but Jordy was insistent on taking his time with her. It’s fine though because it gives us something to beat in the future.
Her hands find my hair, tangling with the strands and tugging.
“Oh gods—” she groans loudly, her hips moving faster as she rides my face, chasing her pleasure.
She uses my hair to tug me forward, pressing my face against her, and I add a second finger. She clamps around me, her moans loud and legs trembling as she comes, soaking my entire hand.
I sit back on my knees once she lets go of my hair and grin up at her as she tries to catch her breath.
“We’re not done with you,” I warn.
“Hell no we’re not,” Luka adds as he picks her up bridal-style and hurries up the stairs as she squeals in delight. I stand up and follow after them, Jordy behind me. We go straight to our bedroom which has a wall of windows overlooking the ocean, and for some reason, with the rain pouring outside and the clouds grey, it looks even more beautiful in here than it normally does. Though, it could just be because of who I’m with, and not where I am.
And I plan to have them with me everywhere I go from now on.
