“You don’t have to fear that,” I interrupt to reassure him. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“I know, but I still want to do things right. I still want the world to know that you’re mine. I want to marry you and give you the wedding of your dreams… for real this time.”
I burst out into laughter. It’s funny now to look back on the mess that we almost made of things. Every now and again I wonder what things would look like now if me and Marcus had gone through with the wedding. None of us would be happy, I’m sure it’d be a mess. Actually, I think it would’ve resulted in our families properly falling out, irreparably so, so I’m glad it didn’t happen.
“So, what do you say Sephy? Will you make me the happiest man alive and agree to be my wife?”
I pause for a few moments, winding him up. I already know what I’m going to say to this question, there’s only one answer, but since he surprised me with this I want to keep him waiting. I don’t even mind that he didn’t make some big deal out of the proposal, to me it’s more romantic that he can’t wait. His impatience when it comes to our romance it lovely.
“Of course I will!” I eventually gush out. “Nothing would make me happier. I love you, Alex.”
He leaps up, placing Benji firmly on the floor as he does, and he crashes his lips into mine. I squeal as he lifts me from the floor with sheer joy racing through my veins. This is the wedding proposal that I wanted, this is the feeling I wanted to have when I thought about my wedding, this is what I’ve always wanted and it feels amazing to finally be here. I never thought we’d end up here. Now I’m in too deep, and I love the way it feels!
“Oh my goodness!” At that moment, Marcus bursts through the door, glowing with happiness from his date. “What on Earth is going on here? Did you finally pop the question, Alex?” He rolls his eyes dramatically and chuckles at the sight of us. “You took your time.”
“I know,” he murmurs quietly. “But now it’s really right. Now it truly is our happy ever after.”
